Advent Life Sciences Research
Investment Thesis
Advent Life Sciences is a London-based, trans-Atlantic venture and growth investor focused on building innovative life sciences businesses in the UK, Europe and the USA. The firm says its aim is to turn breakthrough science into approved medicines or medical products. It starts and invests in early and mid-stage companies with a first-in-class or best-in-class approach, and it works hands-on with management teams to build them.
Its stated approach has four parts: understand the essence of the innovation, judge its competitive relevance and the most meaningful value-creation steps, work in open communication with founders and share diligence, and agree the scientific and clinical approach, operating plan, team development, syndication and financing strategy together. The firm describes these as the five key elements of a great biotech company.
Sector Focus
Investments centre on new drug discovery across all modalities, plus med tech, enabling technologies and vaccines. The portfolio spans oncology and immunotherapy, targeted protein degradation, RNA-targeting small molecules, gene therapy (ocular and neurodegenerative), autoimmune disease, remyelination, women's health, rare disease, cardiac devices, neuromodulation, molecular diagnostics and connected surgical technology.
Stage Focus
Advent often makes its initial investment at Seed or Series A and has founded several companies itself (for example Amphista Therapeutics). It follows companies through mid- and late-stage clinical development and, per its September 2026 press release, assesses opportunities from Series A through growth-stage financing. A growth fund is also listed with the British Business Bank.
