Allumia Ventures Research
Investment Thesis
Allumia Ventures (formerly Providence Ventures) is a healthcare-focused venture capital firm that invests in commercial-stage companies using technology to solve the healthcare industry's most pressing problems. The firm was born inside Providence, one of the largest nonprofit health systems in the US, and spun out as an independent VC in January 2025 while retaining Providence as its anchor LP. Its core pitch to founders is access: because Providence and a growing set of strategic LPs are themselves large healthcare operators, 100% of Allumia's portfolio companies have gone on to work commercially with the firm's LP base. Allumia describes itself as mission-driven but not an impact fund, and as having customer access similar to a corporate VC while remaining structurally independent with venture-class return targets.
Sector Focus
Allumia invests across three sectors: Digital Health, Tech-enabled Healthcare Services, and MedTech (medical devices). Representative portfolio themes include care navigation and interoperability (Kno2, MacroHealth, Collective Medical), behavioral and mental health (Lyra Health, Affect Therapeutics), primary and virtual care delivery (One Medical, DexCare, Arrive Health), surgical and diagnostic devices (Bolder Surgical, Gauss Surgical, OrthAlign, IRIS), chronic disease management (Omada Health), patient experience and reputation (Press Ganey, Binary Fountain), and financial navigation (TailorMed, Kyruus).
Stage Focus
Allumia targets revenue-generating, commercial-stage companies, typically Series A through Series C. It is not a pre-seed or seed investor; the firm explicitly screens for companies that already have commercial traction and a defined go-to-market motion within healthcare delivery, payer, employer, or pharma channels.
Check Size
Initial investments typically range from $5M to $10M+, with the ability to deploy up to $15M total per company including follow-on reserves.
Lead Tendency
Allumia is inclined to lead or co-lead rounds, and when it leads it typically recruits trusted co-investors into the syndicate. The firm can also participate in syndicates led by others depending on deal dynamics. It strongly prefers taking a board seat post-investment as a mechanism for accountability and ongoing partnership.
Recent Activity
Allumia has been actively deploying since its January 2025 spinout, which was anchored by a $150M, 10-year commitment from Providence as the first close of Fund III (the firm previously invested out of two prior $150M Providence-backed funds). Recent investments include leading Greater Good Health's $20.5M Series B (March 2026, senior/Medicare Advantage primary care), leading Affect Therapeutics' $26M Series B (November 2025, virtual behavioral health and substance use care), and participating in Switchboard Health's oversubscribed raise (August 2026) after Switchboard acquired existing portfolio company Livara Health. The portfolio has also seen a wave of exits in 2025: Protenus (acquired by Bluesight, January 2025), Xealth (acquired by Samsung, announced July 2025, closed October 2025), IRIS/Intelligent Retinal Imaging Systems (acquired by Topcon Healthcare, July 2025), Kyruus (acquired by RevSpring, September 2025), and Press Ganey's Forsta business (Qualtrics announced a $6.75B investment, October 2025). Portfolio company Omada Health completed its IPO in June 2025.
Portfolio Highlights
Allumia has backed roughly 30-34 commercial-stage healthcare companies since 2015, with 16+ exits including One Medical (acquired by Amazon), Bolder Surgical (acquired by Hologic, 2021), Gauss Surgical (acquired by Stryker, 2021), Collective Medical (acquired by PointClickCare, 2020), Twistle (acquired by Health Catalyst), and Binary Fountain (acquired by Press Ganey). Active portfolio standouts include Lyra Health (behavioral health unicorn), Trilliant Health (market intelligence), Praia Health (patient identity/digital front door), Wildflower Health (women's health), and Ready, Set, Food! (pediatric allergen introduction).

Decision Process
Allumia operates as a partnership of three investing partners (Stolte, Galles, Fini) supported by two vice presidents, with an advisory board of senior healthcare executives providing additional diligence perspective, per the firm's own description of its process.
Founder Preferences
Allumia looks for commercial-stage healthcare founders who already have revenue and a defined enterprise or provider go-to-market, and who value a partner with deep operator-side access into health systems, payers, and employers rather than a purely financial backer.
Geographic Focus
United States-focused, including ex-US companies with a majority US commercial focus. The firm itself is Seattle- and New York-based.
