Aurelia Foundry Research
Investment Thesis
Aurelia Foundry is a for-profit deep tech fund investing in transformative space companies. Its stated aim is to back companies that reshape, empower and protect day to day life on Earth, on the view that space technology now enables every sector. The fund backs founders at the intersection of space and AI, biotech, energy and defense. The thesis page frames four pillars: space satellite hardware and applications as the backbone of the space economy (Locus Lock), space infrastructure as the physical and industrial layer for a trillion-dollar industry (Rendezvous Robotics), microgravity manufacturing of products that can only be made in weightlessness (LambdaVision), and novel space technologies for energy independence and planetary-scale resilience (Overview Energy). The firm describes its style as bold bets on transformative technology paired with a relentless focus on customer fit, sometimes a picks and shovels approach and sometimes market-making for an entirely new in-space capability.
Ecosystem and Structure
Aurelia Foundry sits inside the wider Aurelia ecosystem alongside the Aurelia Institute, a non-profit space architecture R&D lab, and the MIT Space Exploration Initiative, founded by Dr. Ariel Ekblaw in 2016. The three are separate legal entities with separate boards. The Foundry invests in companies that spin out of the incubation ecosystem and in outside founders who fit the thesis, using a venture-studio model with proprietary deal flow from MIT and the Institute.
Stage Focus
The portfolio page labels companies from Pre-Seed through Series D. Most entries are Seed (about ten of nineteen named companies), with a few Series A, Series B, and one Series D (Stoke Space). Third-party listings describe the firm as a Pre-Seed to Series A investor, and it co-led the $3M pre-seed of Rendezvous Robotics with 8090 Industries in September 2025. The firm's own stage focus is not published, so stage preferences are inferred and carry moderate confidence.
Check Size
No check size is published by the firm. Aggregator sites cite small initial checks consistent with pre-seed and seed leadership, but these are unverified, so check size is left empty.
Lead Tendency
The firm has led or co-led at least the Rendezvous Robotics pre-seed. Evidence for other rounds is thin, so lead tendency is recorded as unknown rather than guessed.
Recent Activity
Portfolio news over the last year is heavy. Star Catcher raised $65M for a space power grid (May 2026). Lunar Outpost raised $30M (May 2026) and won a NASA LTV contract. Turion Space raised $75M (April 2026). Stoke Space added $350M to its Series D (February 2026) after a $510M raise in October 2025. LambdaVision closed a $7M seed (November 2025) and signed an agreement with Vast (June 2026). Overview Energy emerged from stealth (December 2025) and won an Air Force contract (May 2026). Locus Lock raised strategic funding (September 2026). Kapta Space raised a $24M Series A in October 2026 and is listed in the firm's news feed. The fund appears to be actively deploying, though fund size and vintage are not disclosed.
Portfolio Highlights
The portfolio has 19 named companies and one stealth entry: Stoke Space (reusable launch), Northwood Space (ground infrastructure), Overview Energy (space-based solar power), Rendezvous Robotics, Max Space (inflatable habitats), LambdaVision (artificial retinas made in orbit), Interlune (lunar helium-3), Star Catcher (space power beaming), Cascade Space, Lunar Outpost (lunar rovers), Locus Lock (software-defined GNSS), ThinkOrbital, Helogen, DCUBED, Longshot, Novo Space, Turion Space and SysGit. Four companies were named to the 2026 WEF Technology Pioneers list and four to the NatSec100.

Decision Process
Not published. A small partnership led by the GP with venture partners; treated as partnership with low confidence.
Founder Preferences
Technical founders building hardware or software for the space environment, often with MIT or aerospace ties, who benefit from the incubation program: technical mentorship, microgravity and cis-lunar flight opportunities, space-regulatory legal support (FAA, FCC, ITAR), recruiting, and introductions to funders and customers.
Geographic Focus
Based in the Boston and Cambridge area. Portfolio companies are mostly US-based, with some international (DCUBED in Europe), and the focus is on the space sector rather than a region.
