Big Pi Ventures Research
Investment Thesis
Big Pi Ventures is an Athens-based, multi-stage technology investment platform founded in 2018 by Marco (Markos) Veremis and colleagues. It describes itself as a firm that backs technology-first companies from "early breakthroughs to market leaders", with a global remit and a regional edge in Greece and Southeast Europe. The firm argues that Greece and the wider region, including the diaspora, offer exceptional engineering and scientific talent and cost-effective operating hubs for companies that sell to international markets. Its early-stage strategy often backs scientists and engineers who want to bring projects from university labs, research centers and corporations to market. The portfolio skews deep tech: robotics, life sciences, medical devices, advanced materials, data infrastructure and AI.
Stage Focus
Big Pi runs two fund families. The early-stage funds (Big Pi I and Big Pi II, the latter announced in 2023 at about 50 million euros and reaching a final close in 2025) invest at pre-seed, seed and early rounds. Big Pi Growth I, launched in September 2025, is the first tech growth equity fund out of Greece and Southeast Europe, targeting scale-ups at Series B and later.
Check Size
The firm states equity tickets range from 0.5 to 30 million euros across its funds. Big Pi Growth I plans tickets of 7 to 20+ million euros per company as lead investor. Early-stage tickets sit at the low end of the range.
Lead Tendency
Big Pi often leads. It led Juisci's 5.5 million dollar seed, led ORamaVR's 4.5 million euro seed, co-led Nutropy's 7 million euro seed, and Big Pi Growth led the Series B rounds of Numan and August Robotics. The growth fund is explicitly positioned as a lead investor.
