Booom Research
Investment Thesis
Booom (stylized BOOOM) is a Berlin-based micro fund that backs Europe's B2B software and supply-chain backbone at the earliest stages. Its pitch is "Why go big when you can go booom": a small, hyper-networked fund run on the founder side of the table. The firm describes itself as a spaceship fuelled by well-travelled founders. The partners built a unicorn with more than 1,000 employees and raised roughly 400 million euros in capital along the way, and they say they want to help founders avoid mistakes they already made. The website describes a founder-friendly product that removes structurally conflicting interests and gives founders access to a powerful network, with the goal of providing the largest value per euro on a cap table.
Stage Focus
Pre-seed and seed. The website states initial checks of 100k to 400k euros. Most portfolio entries on the site show PreSeed as the entry round, with a few Seed and Series A entries (several of the Series A entries predate the fund).
Check Size
Initial tickets of 100,000 to 400,000 euros, per the website and press coverage of the fund close.
Lead Tendency
The portfolio table lists substantial co-investor syndicates on almost every deal (General Catalyst, Index Ventures, Accel, Lucid, Puzzle Ventures, Project A, Base10 and others), and some rounds list only angels. Press describes the firm investing as a lead VC for half a decade before this fund, but the current fund's role per deal is not disclosed, so lead tendency is recorded as unknown.
Recent Activity
- July 2024: closed an oversubscribed 17 million euro Fund I, according to Vestbee and Peak coverage.
- The fund targets about 30 European B2B software companies at pre-seed and seed.
- Third-party data (PitchBook snippet) lists the most recent investment as Atira on 3 September 2026.
- Comstruct, a portfolio company, raised about 13.5 million dollars (Dealroom).
- Fund status: actively deploying from Fund I.
Portfolio Highlights
The site's portfolio table is split into "Booom" investments and "Pre Booom" investments made earlier by the partners. Booom-era companies named on the site: Vcola, Bayshore, GeneralMind, Afori, Avallon Labs, Atira, Eventfirst, Dataleap.ai, Emidat, Conduct AI, Ankar AI, Qogita, SPREAD AI, Flatpay and Comstruct, plus several rows marked "To be announced". Sector tags on the site are B2B, SupplyChain and B2C. Pre-Booom exits shown include Amie, Alokai (fka Vue Storefront), Atla AI, Sastrify and topi. Co-investors include Index, General Catalyst, Accel, Creandum, Bessemer, HV Capital and Sequoia on earlier rounds.
Team
- Felix Plapperer: General Partner and solo GP. Helped scale sennder (German logistics unicorn) to over 1,000 employees.
- Julius Koehler: Company Building Coach, sennder cofounder.
- David Nothacker: Company Building Coach, sennder cofounder.
- Nico Schefenacker: Company Building Coach, sennder cofounder.
- Christian Gahr: Legal Partner.
Decision Process
Solo GP: Felix Plapperer makes the investment decisions, with the three sennder cofounders acting as coaches who commit to mentoring portfolio founders.
Founder Preferences
The "Our type" section describes the founders they like: learning machines, delusional ambition, a CEO who can sell, smart heads, and a strong-willed CTO who can build. They want founders who put in 50-hour-plus weeks and are not deterred by gravity.
Geographic Focus
Europe, with a Berlin base and a heavy German and wider European portfolio (Berlin, London, Munich, Amsterdam and elsewhere).
Gaps
The site lists no explicit anti-thesis, fund size beyond third-party reporting, or decision timeline. The portfolio table is text, not a logo wall; the captioned read returned only 8 non-company images (space photos and team portraits). Several current portfolio rows are marked "To be announced" and are not included.
