DENMU Research
Investment Thesis
DENMU ("Electric Dreams" in Japanese) is a San Francisco-based video game investment house founded in 2025 by Michael Fan and Ryan You. It invests only in video game content. Its stated philosophy is "auteur-first": it prioritizes the creative vision of game makers and long-term partnerships over short-term financial optimization. The firm says it backs games "that deserve to exist" rather than chasing proven formulas or market timing, and that it wants to support people who make games across multiple projects, not a single title. Its mission line is to turn dreams into memories.
Stage Focus
DENMU funds projects across the whole development cycle, from first prototype to global launch. The June 2026 announcement says the fund provides development, marketing and growth capital for AAA, AA, indie, premium, free-to-play, PC, console and mobile games. It is therefore project and studio finance more than classic startup equity, so conventional stage labels fit poorly. Capital is structured per game, including non-dilutive funding and hybrid structures.
Check Size
Press coverage of the fund launch (June 2026) reports an average investment of about $1 million to $5 million, with some projects needing more. The $50M figure comes from DENMU's own press release; the firm says it has secured the majority of commitments for its initial $50 million fund.
Lead Tendency
Not stated. The firm describes itself as a one-stop shop for game makers and says it works alongside creators on concept, development, publishing and growth, which suggests a hands-on lead or co-funder role. Lead tendency is recorded as unknown.

The page is a logo and artwork wall; names were taken from the page's own link labels, and the portfolio page captions describe artwork only. The press release also mentions an unnamed upcoming AAA title based on a major entertainment IP. These are game titles, so no company domains were asserted.
