Energy Revolution Ventures (ERV) Research
Investment Thesis
Energy Revolution Ventures (ERV) is a London-based venture capital firm that invests in the foundational technologies of electrification. Its thesis is that electricity will become the energy platform on which the economy runs. Batteries, motors and power electronics have each fallen to a fraction of their cost of 20 years ago, and ERV expects the cost of moving things, heating things and making materials to converge on the cost of electrons. The firm backs deep-science, electrochemistry-rooted companies that can rewire infrastructure and rebuild industries rather than deliver incremental gains. The pitch to founders is hardware-first: technical depth, scalable manufacturing and system-wide impact.
Sector Focus
The core focus is energy storage, grid technology and advanced materials. ERV makes selective investments in adjacent areas, namely renewable fuels (green hydrogen electrolysers and membranes) and carbon capture, where they build on the same electrochemistry and engineering base. Portfolio examples include lithium-ion and flow batteries, battery diagnostics and recycling, cathode materials, hydrogen membranes and metal organic frameworks for gas separation.
Stage Focus
ERV invests at Seed and Series A. Most of the disclosed portfolio entered at Seed, with Green Li-ion listed at Series A. Third-party databases list some rounds as Series A, but the firm's own site shows Seed for all except Green Li-ion.
Check Size
No check size is published. Fund I was about $18M across 10 companies, which implies average initial checks of roughly $1M to $2M including follow-ons. This is an inference and is held at low confidence.
Lead Tendency
Not stated. Fund I's follow-on rounds were led by other VCs, investors and corporates, which suggests ERV is often an early institutional backer that is later joined by larger leads. Lead tendency is left unknown.
Recent Activity
On 23 September 2026 ERV announced the first close of Fund II, targeting US$50M and anchored by a $13.5M commitment from UK energy company Centrica plc. Fund II is independently managed and invests at Seed and Series A in energy storage, grid technology and advanced materials. Fund I ($18M, a 2023 vintage) is fully invested in 10 global companies. The most recent portfolio addition on the site is Redoxion (UK, LFP and LMFP cathode materials, Seed). ERV also hosts an invite-only event series, Conversations in Climate Tech, and publishes the Watt Happens Next insight series.

Decision Process
Investment decisions sit with an investment committee. Fund II is independently managed. Any Fund II investment into a Prosemino company needs separate independent investment committee approval.
Prosemino Venture Builder
Prosemino is ERV's in-house venture builder, which operates under a separate mandate. It has created eight companies from its London wet chemistry laboratories and gives startups access to hard-tech capital, laboratory space and technical mentorship. This gives ERV a proprietary deal-flow and technical diligence edge in electrochemistry.
Founder Preferences
Deep-science technical founders with defensible electrochemistry, materials or systems IP, and a credible route to manufacturing at scale. ERV offers lab access and PhD-level technical support, so it suits teams that need hardware development help alongside capital.
Geographic Focus
Global. The portfolio spans the UK, USA, Sweden and Singapore, with the firm based in London.
