JamJar Investments Research
Investment Thesis
JamJar Investments is an early-stage European consumer venture capital firm founded in 2013 by Adam Balon, Jon Wright, and Richard Reed, the co-CEOs behind innocent drinks (sold to Coca-Cola for over $700M in 2013), alongside Partner Katie Marrache. JamJar's thesis is that great consumer brands are built by founders with complementary skills who can ruthlessly prioritize, and that operators who have actually scaled a consumer brand are uniquely positioned to spot and support the next generation. The firm backs "tomorrow's major consumer brands" across the UK and Europe, providing hands-on operational support drawn directly from the founders' own experience building innocent from a market stall to a market leader.
Sector Focus
JamJar invests almost exclusively in consumer categories: food and beverage (Tony's Chocolonely, Reformed, Ahead, Humantra), health, beauty and personal care (Wild, Yepoda, Healf), pet products (Tails, Marleybones, Meatly), and consumer software/marketplaces adjacent to consumer brands (Runna, Deliveroo, Healf as a wellness marketplace). The team explicitly notes growing interest in consumer software and data, reflected in recent hires focused on "consumer software" and "JamJar tech and data."
Stage Focus
JamJar is a dedicated early-stage investor. Their published criteria require companies to be raising between £0.5m and £5m, positioning them for seed through early Series A rounds. They aim to be an early, high-conviction backer rather than a late-stage or growth investor.
Check Size
Typical investment range is £0.5m–£5m per their published criteria. They also opened up co-investment access to their own portfolio founders and the public via a crowdfund alongside their institutional Fund II raise.
Investment Criteria
JamJar evaluates opportunities on three explicit pillars: People (a complementary founding team that has proven it can ruthlessly prioritize), Product (a consumer-loved offering with strong early performance metrics), and Potential (a realistic path to a £250m+ exit valuation). Companies must be based in Europe.
Lead Tendency
JamJar has both led and participated in follow-on rounds across its portfolio (e.g. led Marleybones' 2024 seed round; participated alongside IRIS Ventures in Reformed's 2026 Series A, and alongside Oyster Bay Venture Capital in Meatly's 2026 Series A), indicating a flexible approach that leans toward leading at seed and participating at later, larger rounds.
Recent Activity
JamJar closed a >£100m Fund II in April 2022, the firm's first institutionally backed fund, anchored by a £48m cornerstone commitment from the British Business Bank's Enterprise Capital Funds programme — the largest ECF to date at the time. The fund included a novel crowdfund tranche letting JamJar's own portfolio founders and the public invest on the same terms as institutional LPs. Recent 2026 activity includes participating in Meatly's £10.4M Series A (May 2026, cultivated pet food) and Reformed's $22M Series A (July 2026, functional coffee/matcha), alongside a follow-on into Marleybones (October 2025).

Decision Process
Investment decisions are made by a small partnership of four operator-founders (Reed, Balon, Wright, Marrache) supported by a principal- and investor-level deal team — consistent with a partnership-style decision process rather than a solo GP or formal investment committee.
Founder Preferences
JamJar looks for complementary founding teams (not solo founders) with demonstrated ability to ruthlessly prioritize, building products consumers genuinely love with strong early traction metrics, and a credible path to a large (£250m+) exit outcome.
Geographic Focus
Europe-wide, with a heavy concentration in the UK given the founders' base and network; the published criteria explicitly require companies to be based in Europe.
