Naver Ventures Research
Investment Thesis
NAVER Ventures is the Silicon Valley-based corporate venture capital arm of NAVER Corp, South Korea's largest internet company (search, commerce, fintech, content, cloud, AI, and robotics). Founding general partner Yong-Jung (YJ) Park frames the thesis around treating investments as both financial opportunities and strategic intelligence: "The best opportunities often reveal where an industry is going before the industry has fully recognised it." Rather than chasing attention-grabbing AI names, the firm looks for companies that give it an early, structural view of where technology platforms are heading, and that can meaningfully benefit from NAVER's distribution and commercial relationships across Korea, Japan, and wider Asia.
Stage Focus
NAVER Ventures was explicitly established to invest in later-stage companies, primarily in the US, in contrast to NAVER's long-running D2SF arm, which concentrates on very early-stage Korean startups. Its confirmed portfolio spans growth-stage AI leaders (Anthropic, ElevenLabs, Suno) alongside smaller Series A/B companies (Enhans, Twelve Labs), suggesting a Series B-through-growth center of gravity with occasional earlier participation when the platform thesis is strong.
Check Size
Check size has not been publicly disclosed for any individual deal; press coverage of both the TwelveLabs and Enhans investments explicitly notes NAVER did not disclose investment amounts. Given the growth-stage company profile (Anthropic, ElevenLabs, Suno), typical checks are likely to be meaningful minority participations in large rounds rather than lead checks.
Lead Tendency
Evidence points to a follow/participate posture rather than leading: the firm is consistently described as "confirming an investment" or "securing investment from" alongside other backers, and its portfolio (Anthropic, ElevenLabs, Suno, Twelve Labs) consists of companies with well-established lead investors already in place. No sourced deal describes NAVER Ventures as the lead.
Recent Activity
NAVER Ventures launched in May/June 2025 with its first confirmed investment in Twelve Labs. Since then:
- July 2026: Twelve Labs raised a $100M Series B to build "Video Superintelligence" (NAVER Ventures is an existing backer).
- April 2026: Invested in Enhans, an ontology-driven agentic AI company for enterprises, to help it expand globally.
- June 2026: Founding GP Yong-Jung Park named to the Global Corporate Venturing Powerlist 2026, and gave a Maeil Business Newspaper interview describing NAVER Ventures' role as a "guide VC" ("길잡이 VC") for Korean startups entering the US market.
The fund appears to be actively deploying, with steady deal and press cadence through mid-2026.

Team
- Yong-Jung (YJ) Park, Founding General Partner — Leads NAVER Ventures out of Silicon Valley (Redwood City/Menlo Park, CA). Previously head of NAVER D2SF (NAVER's early-stage CVC and startup accelerator arm) from July 2024, and investment director at NAVER Corp since 2018. A GCV Powerlist 2023 awardee and named to the GCV Powerlist 2026.
- Kim Namsun, President of Investments, NAVER Corp — Oversees NAVER Ventures at the parent-company level; was part of the leadership delegation (with NAVER founder Lee Hae-jin and CEO Choi Soo-yeon) that launched the unit in Silicon Valley in June 2025.
LinkedIn lists the firm at 2-10 employees, consistent with a lean, GP-led team.
Decision Process
Given the small team size and single named investing GP (Park), decisions appear to run through a solo-GP model with oversight/sign-off from NAVER Corp's President of Investments (Kim Namsun) for strategic alignment with the parent company.
Founder Preferences
Park has been explicit that NAVER Ventures avoids startups built primarily to serve a single corporate customer's internal needs: "If a startup is built only around one corporate customer's internal needs, the market ceiling is usually too limited." The firm prefers founders building strong, commercially independent standalone companies that can additionally benefit from NAVER's technical understanding, customer access, and Asia market strategic context — capital, in Park's view, is already abundant in AI; the differentiated value is the combination of patient capital plus distribution.
Geographic Focus
Primarily US (Silicon Valley) founders, with an explicit mandate to build bridges between Silicon Valley and Asia's technology ecosystem — helping US portfolio companies access Korea, Japan, and wider Asian markets, and helping Korean founders access Silicon Valley networks and capital faster than they otherwise could.
