NeoGenesis Capital Research
Investment Thesis
NeoGenesis Capital is a venture firm that applies a deliberately concentrated, single-ecosystem strategy to programmable biology. Its thesis is that the highest-returning ventures of the last decade (Anthropic, xAI, OpenAI, SpaceX) were incubated inside closed ecosystems around a generational founder, so access rather than discovery was the edge. The firm applies that model to Colossal Biosciences, the genetic engineering platform built by Ben Lamm and George Church, and invests in Colossal and in the companies "gestated" from its platform. The firm states that the concentration is the thesis.
Focus Areas
Stated application areas include longevity, fertility, agriculture (drought and disease resistant crops), environmental remediation (enzymes that break down microplastics), pandemic prevention and pathogen tracking, artificial wombs, de-extinction and AI-native genetic design. Colossal reports more than $635M raised, a $10.2B valuation at its Series C, and a platform spanning ancient DNA assembly, AI-assisted editing, multiplex gene editing and artificial wombs.
Stage Focus
Not stated. Exposure so far spans a late-stage platform anchor (Colossal) and early spinouts (Breaking, Astromech). Future spinouts are the expected deal flow: "As each one spins out, NeoGenesis Capital is positioned to invest." Form Bio, Colossal's first spinout in 2022, predates the fund and is explicitly not a NeoGenesis investment.
Check Size
Not disclosed. A Form D filed July 1, 2026 reports $33.1M sold to 15 investors in an indefinite-duration pooled investment fund (NeoGenesis Capital Fund I, LP), with a first sale on June 18, 2026. The fund announced its initial closing on October 14, 2026.
Lead Tendency
Unknown. No public information on whether the firm leads rounds. MapCo lists one tracked deal, Astromech's $20M raise in August 2026.
Recent Activity
- October 14, 2026: launched the firm and announced the initial closing of its first fund.
- July 2026: Form D filed reporting $33.1M sold.
- August 2026: tracked as an investor in Astromech's $20M round (MapCo; unverified by the firm).
- October 2026: Oliver Trevena joined as Head of Culture.
Portfolio Highlights
- Colossal Biosciences: platform anchor, de-extinction and species preservation, est. 2021.
- Breaking: planetary remediation, enzymatic degradation of PET plastics, gestated 2024, in pilots with major apparel brands.
- Astromech: AI and biological intelligence, a predictive engine for biology, gestated 2025, described as the first Colossal spinout to reach unicorn status.
Team
- Peter H. Diamandis, MD: Co-Founder and Partner. Founder and Executive Chairman of XPRIZE, co-founder of Fountain Life, seed investor in Colossal in 2021.
- Yianni Psaltis, PhD: Co-Founder and Managing Partner. PhD in cancer biology (Georgetown), Link-XPV founding team, co-founder of Caliwater.
- Oliver Trevena: Head of Culture. Entrepreneur, investor and producer, 30+ brands, co-founder of Caliwater.
- Ben Lamm and George Church lead Colossal. The site discloses they hold no economic interest in NeoGenesis, receive no fees or carry, and take no part in its investment decisions, so they are not listed as team members.
Decision Process
Partnership-led by the two co-founders. No formal process is published.
Founder Preferences
The firm backs companies built on, or spun out of, the Colossal platform, with founders in the Lamm and Church ecosystem. It is not a general-purpose seed fund and is unlikely to be a fit for founders outside that ecosystem.
Geographic Focus
US. The Form D lists Miami, FL (848 Brickell Avenue). Colossal is based in Dallas. No geographic restriction is stated beyond the ecosystem constraint.
Caveats
The portfolio is three names, one of them (Colossal) the platform itself. Stage, check size and lead tendency are not public, and the MapCo report on Astromech has not been confirmed by the firm.
