NewView Capital Research
Investment Thesis
NewView Capital is a venture growth firm founded in 2018 by Ravi Viswanathan through a landmark $1.35 billion secondary transaction that spun a concentrated portfolio of late-stage companies out of New Enterprise Associates (NEA). The firm's stated mandate is direct: "We invest in high-potential companies in enterprise software, fintech, and AI." NewView pairs venture pedigree with flexible capital, structuring investments on a primary, secondary, or hybrid basis, and explicitly does not require a minimum ownership stake or board seat to participate. The firm frames itself as a growth-stage partner that helps companies "realize scale" rather than a first check into unproven ideas.
A defining feature of NewView's strategy is its specialization in venture secondaries. Since inception the firm has completed more than 500 secondary transactions, providing liquidity to early investors and employees at scaled, still-private companies. This secondary expertise is now productized: in September 2026 NewView announced a strategic collaboration with Carta to support company-sponsored tender offers, combining NewView's transaction experience with Carta's equity-management infrastructure.
Stage Focus
NewView invests across growth stages, from Series A through late-stage primary rounds and secondary transactions in pre-IPO companies. Recent direct investments span Series A (Niural, $52M total round), Series C (Inspiren, $70M, led), Series D (Owner; Farther, $150M, participated alongside lead General Atlantic), and Series E co-investments (Halter, Sigma). The firm's core competency, however, remains secondary purchases in already-scaled private companies — a complement to, not a replacement for, its primary investing.
Check Size
NewView does not publish a fixed check-size band. Observed recent primary checks range from co-investment tickets in the tens of millions (Series E rounds for Halter and Sigma) up to a $70M lead check (Inspiren Series C). The firm states it has "no minimum ownership requirements" and can write both lead and follow-on checks depending on the opportunity and whether the investment is primary, secondary, or hybrid.
Lead Tendency
Mixed. NewView has led rounds outright (Inspiren's $70M Series C) and participated as a non-lead investor in others (Farther's Series D, led by General Atlantic; various Series E co-investments). The firm describes itself as able to "lead or follow" depending on what a company needs.

Decision Process
Structured as a multi-partner investment team (Managing Partner plus several Partners, Venture Partners, and Principals) rather than a solo-GP shop, consistent with a firm managing over $3B in assets across multiple funds and secondary vehicles.
Founder Preferences
NewView gravitates toward founders building durable, infrastructure-first platforms in categories with high switching costs and compounding data advantages — explicitly citing "physical AI" (Verkada, Halter, Inspiren) and owned-infrastructure fintech (Niural, Farther) as patterns it looks for. The firm also backs founder-operators with prior scale experience (e.g., Niural's founders previously built and sold companies; Farther's founders came from Goldman Sachs and RIA operating backgrounds).
Geographic Focus
Primarily United States, with selective international exposure through portfolio companies operating globally (Eucalyptus in Australia/UK/Germany/Japan, Halter in New Zealand, Didi Chuxing in China, CloudWalk in Brazil). Headquartered in San Francisco, California.
Summary
NewView Capital is best understood as a growth-stage, secondaries-native venture firm — not a traditional early-stage shop. Its edge is liquidity expertise (500+ secondary transactions, a Carta partnership, and a dedicated Fund IV) paired with selective primary growth checks into enterprise software, fintech, and AI-native infrastructure companies with strong existing traction.
