No Label Ventures Research
Investment Thesis
No Label Ventures (NLV) is an early-stage European VC fund built around a singular, deeply personal thesis: backing immigrant entrepreneurs building companies in Europe. Founded by Ramzi Rafih, who himself immigrated from Lebanon to France and then the UK, the fund capitalizes on the well-documented over-performance of immigrant founders. NLV cites data showing that immigrants account for approximately 50% of US unicorns and 40% of UK unicorns. The fund's mission is to spot and support this talent before the broader market catches up.
The thesis is rooted in the belief that the act of immigration itself is inherently entrepreneurial — requiring risk-taking, resilience, adaptability, and the conviction to rebuild from zero. These traits correlate strongly with startup success. NLV seeks founders who have "broken free of the labels assigned at their dinner table" and are channeling that outsider energy into building companies.
Sector Focus
No Label Ventures is explicitly sector agnostic. The fund invests across a wide range of industries, following founders rather than sectors. The current portfolio spans AI/ML applications, biotech, medtech, fintech, logistics, music tech, developer tools, and more. As Ramzi has stated: "I try never to say no based on the sector. I find amazing founders and I just want to back them."
Despite the sector-agnostic approach, AI and machine learning (both traditional ML and generative AI) represent a dominant theme across the portfolio, with many portfolio companies leveraging AI in their core products.
Stage Focus
NLV invests at the earliest stages — primarily pre-seed and seed. The fund frequently invests before a product or revenue exists, often when founders are still employed, working on an idea, or building an MVP. NLV positions itself as the first institutional money in, investing unconditionally before a lead VC is in place, and then making introductions to larger VCs and angels to help founders raise subsequent rounds.
Several portfolio companies have gone on to raise from top-tier funds including Sequoia Capital and other leading European and US VCs after NLV's initial backing.
Check Size
Typical investment range: $150,000 - $250,000 per round. The fund can invest more in collaboration with its LPs. Follow-on investments are also available for existing portfolio companies. The average ticket size has been around or slightly under $150K.
Fund Details
Fund I closed in December 2023 at £11 million (approximately $14M). The fund targets approximately 35 portfolio companies. Approximately one-third of the fund came from KKR colleagues and the firm's founders, including Henry Roberts, one of KKR's co-founders. The fund is regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 1037034).
Recent Activity
NLV has been actively deploying from Fund I across a diverse set of companies. The portfolio has grown to 16+ companies since launching. Out of early investments, four have achieved markups (valuations increased in subsequent rounds). The fund is in active deployment mode, with Ramzi focused primarily on meeting and investing in founders.

Team
No Label Ventures is a solo GP fund run by Ramzi Rafih. Ramzi has over ten years of investing experience spanning angel investing, private equity, and growth equity:
- JP Morgan — Started career during the 2007-2008 financial crisis, working in investment banking
- Silver Lake — Moved to technology-focused private equity in 2013
- KKR — Joined for European private equity and growth equity focus, developed pattern recognition for what makes great companies and founders
- Angel investing — Transitioned to early-stage personal investing before launching NLV
Ramzi was born to Lebanese immigrant parents in Saudi Arabia, grew up between Saudi Arabia and Lebanon, studied mechanical engineering before pivoting to business (HEC Paris), and has lived in France and the UK. He speaks French, Arabic, and English.
Ramzi is open to adding a partner to the fund in the future but has not yet formalized any partnership.
Decision Process
As a solo GP, Ramzi makes all investment decisions independently. He prioritizes meeting founders before they meet other VCs and avoids asking who else is looking at the deal to prevent FOMO-driven decisions. He applies fundamental analysis learned from private equity — evaluating founder quality, business model viability, and scalability. The emphasis is overwhelmingly on founder assessment over market or financial metrics at this stage.
Geographic Focus
Primarily Europe, with particular activity in the UK, France, and Germany. The fund specifically targets immigrant founders building in European ecosystems. Ramzi has noted growing interest in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Paris, and London as magnets for global tech talent.
Founder Preferences
NLV requires at least one founder with a migration background. Beyond this core requirement, Ramzi looks for:
- Entrepreneurial resilience and adaptability
- Ambitious vision paired with execution capability
- Founders who may need visa support (NLV assists with this)
- Technical or domain expertise in their area
- The drive that comes from having "something to prove"
Value-Add
Beyond capital, NLV provides:
- Introductions to angels, VCs, and corporate clients (typically PE-owned enterprises)
- Visa and immigration support for founders
- Network from KKR, Silver Lake, and JP Morgan relationships
- Pattern recognition from late-stage PE applied to early-stage assessment
