Investment Thesis
Okta Ventures is the corporate venture investment arm of Okta, Inc. (NASDAQ: OKTA), "The World's Identity Company." Its mission is to extend the Okta platform by backing startups that help people and organizations securely connect to any technology. The fund invests in companies building cutting-edge technology enabled by identity, security, and privacy, with a particular current focus on securing AI agents, non-human identities, and the broader agentic-AI ecosystem. Rather than acting as a pure financial investor, Okta Ventures positions itself as a strategic, long-term partner: portfolio companies get access to Okta's APIs and engineering expertise, co-marketing through the Okta Integration Network, warm introductions into Okta's 15,000+ customer base, and specialized product/engineering/sales bootcamps.
Stage Focus
Okta Ventures explicitly invests across all stages of the startup lifecycle, including pre-product companies. In practice the portfolio skews seed through Series B, with select later-stage participation (e.g., Squint's $40M Series B, Sapiom's $35M Series A). The firm also reserves capital for follow-on investments in existing portfolio companies.

Per Okta's own FAQ, typical early-stage investments are under $1,000,000. Later-stage check sizes are dependent on round structure and are not publicly disclosed. Okta Ventures targets approximately 10 new startup investments per year.
Lead Tendency
Okta Ventures does not lead investment rounds. It exclusively co-invests alongside other confirmed lead investors, and one of its formal investment criteria is that a company must already have a lead investor confirmed before Okta Ventures will engage.

As a corporate venture arm operating inside Okta's Corporate Development function, decisions likely run through an internal investment committee rather than a single solo GP. Okta Ventures explicitly does not take board seats, favoring an advisor/ecosystem-partner role over formal governance involvement.
Founder Preferences
Okta's stated investment criteria are explicit: companies must be identity-driven (well positioned to address identity, privacy, or security use cases), willing to be long-term partners eager to collaborate with Okta, positioned to contribute meaningfully to the Okta Integration Network, able to demonstrate real market fit and customer demand, and already raising a round with a lead investor confirmed. Okta Ventures also explicitly encourages underrepresented founders to apply.
