Saepio Capital: research profile
Overview and sources
Saepio Capital is a small, Houston-area investment firm (listed address: The Woodlands, Texas; press describes it as "out of Houston, TX"). LinkedIn describes it as "Strategic alternative investments", privately held, 2-10 employees. Caplight lists a 2022 founding year, and Managing Partner Jaan Bains lists his Saepio Capital role as starting January 2022. The firm's own website is a single-page stub at saepiocap.com (a contact link to [email protected] and a 2023 copyright line). The domain saepio.vc, on file before this research, does not resolve, so saepiocap.com was used as the verified website. Public information is thin, so most of this profile comes from third-party records and one press release. Not to be confused with Saepio Capital Management LLC, a New York long/short equity hedge fund founded by David Shapiro, or with Saepio Solutions, a UK cybersecurity firm. Neither is related to this venture investor as far as the evidence shows.
Investment thesis
No written thesis is published. The one lead deal and the quote tied to it indicate an interest in technology-enabled services and labor marketplaces tied to U.S. infrastructure build-out. Managing Partner Jaan Bains said of Buildforce: "Buildforce is capitalizing on a clear opportunity in America's generational infrastructure buildout. We believe their mission to use technology to improve lives in the construction space will allow them to make a positive long-term impact on a large and important labor market." Themes named in the release: the skilled-trades labor shortage, data center construction, infrastructure investment and the energy transition. Treat this as a one-deal signal, not a stated thesis.
Stage focus and check size
The only disclosed investment is a $10M Series A round that Saepio led. Caplight's stage mix is paywalled but lists Seed through Growth as possible categories. Check size is not disclosed. The firm's own share of the $10M round is unknown, so no check size range is recorded. Bains said the firm was proud "to make an additional investment", so Saepio was already an investor in Buildforce before the Series A, and the round was a follow-on that it then led.
Lead tendency
It led the Buildforce Series A (announced 2026-07-28), with Blue Heron Capital as a new investor and Revolution's Rise of the Rest Seed Fund, S3 Ventures and Chicago Ventures participating. The release also says "several new strategic individual investors" joined through Saepio, per Buildforce CEO Moody Heard on LinkedIn. That suggests Saepio syndicates individual investors alongside its own capital. One data point means lead tendency is recorded as "leads" with low confidence.
Recent activity and fund status
Last known activity is July 2026. Afterraise shows one round led in 2026 and none joined, with $10M raised in that round. Caplight shows one portfolio company. Whether Saepio runs a pooled fund or invests through deal-by-deal vehicles is not disclosed (Caplight describes it as managing pooled investment funds; this is unverified). Fund status is unknown.
Portfolio highlights
Buildforce (buildforce.com): founded in 2019, Houston and Austin, TX. A tech-enabled electrician staffing business with a mobile app for electricians and a web app for electrical contractors. Over 2,000,000 hours logged across more than 2,000 commercial construction projects. CEO and co-founder Moody Heard. No other portfolio companies could be verified, and no exits are known.
Team
Jaan Bains, Managing Partner, Houston, Texas. His LinkedIn lists prior roles including TimeZone and a University of Texas at Austin education; he reposted news of Time Zone Capital, a film-finance fund, in 2026, so he is active in other alternative-investment areas beyond venture. He is the only identified team member and the firm's listed contact.
Decision process
Appears to be a single-decision-maker firm led by Bains, but this is inferred from a 2-10 person firm with one named principal, not stated by the firm. Decision timeline and warm-intro requirements are unknown.
Founder preferences and geography
Evidence is limited to Buildforce: a founder-led, operator-heavy team in a trades-labor niche, based in Houston, Texas, with existing institutional seed backers. Saepio invests alongside Texas and Midwest seed funds. The Houston base and the Houston-headquartered portfolio company suggest a Texas tilt, but geographic focus is not stated.
Gaps
No published thesis, fund size, AUM, check size, stage policy or portfolio page. The website is a stub. A direct conversation with Bains is the only way to fill these in. Confidence in all preference fields is low.
