Socium Ventures Research
Investment Thesis
Socium Ventures is the venture and growth investment arm of Cox Enterprises, a family-owned, roughly $23 billion company based in Atlanta. The firm describes itself as investing in "durable and compounding companies" and partnering with "visionary founders who are transforming industries." It backs technology-led growth across enterprise and vertical software, advanced computer tools, public sector software, healthcare, fintech, B2B marketplaces and sustainability. The pitch to founders rests on permanent capital, a flexible mandate and access to the Cox operating platform.
Stage Focus
Socium targets Series A and beyond. Its public materials say it invests across the full lifecycle, from venture and growth through late-stage private, pre-IPO and public companies. In practice, third-party data (Tracxn) shows most first checks at Series B and Series C, with a few Series A, D and E entries. It is not a pre-seed or seed fund.
Check Size
The stated range is $3M to $25M, repeated on the website and in both Cox press releases (June 2023 launch and October 2024 Fund II announcement).
Lead Tendency
The firm leads some rounds and joins others. It led CurbWaste's $28M Series B in October 2025 per the CB Insights record of that announcement, while the Reliable Robotics Series D ($160M), Albert Invent Series B and True Footage Series C list many co-investors. Lead tendency is best read as both.
Fund Status and Recent Activity
Socium launched in June 2023 with Andrew Davis leading it. On October 24, 2024 Cox announced a second $300M fund, bringing total managed capital to $600M of evergreen capital with no fixed liquidity timeline. The firm is actively deploying. Recent deals per the site news page and CB Insights/Tracxn:
