Genoma Institute is a nonprofit dedicated to curing genetic disease
Genoma Institute is a nonprofit dedicated to curing genetic disease. We believe breakthroughs come faster when science is open, rigorous, and shared. Our work is built on three pillars: CALI Competition: the Critical Assessment of Large Cargo Insertion, a blind, unbiased benchmark where academic and industry teams compare gene editing tools on equal footing. Think of it as the Olympics of large-scale gene editing. Research Lab: focused work on gene therapies for mitochondrial DNA diseases, tackling age-related and rare disorders few others are pursuing. State of the Genome: a newsletter, podcast, and forum creating a trusted space for public conversation about gene editing, AI in biology, and what it means for humanity. We also build the Read suite of open-source tools, starting with BaseRead, which turns genetic variant files into plain-language reports, so researchers, clinicians, and patients can understand genomic data. Our values: scientific integrity, open science, open source, and community. Founded by Lisa Eshun-Wilson, PhD. (Ex-Profluent Bio; Postdoc @Scripps; PhD @ UCBerkeley)
