A26 Ventures Research
Investment Thesis
A26 Ventures describes itself as structured like a fund but behaving like a network. It is a Los Angeles pre-seed fund founded by UCLA Anderson MBA students, with the pitch that the check is already raised and 110 investing members, not a single partner, bring customers, hires and follow-on investors to each company. It backs founders with mastery: domain expertise and first-hand knowledge of the problem that a competitor cannot copy or replace with AI. The site says building is now abundant and distribution is the hard part, so it wants to see what has been built and how venture dollars will be used to reach market.
Stage Focus
A26 invests in the earliest rounds, pre-seed and angel. A rough MVP and early signal are enough. Evidence can be active users, pilots, a waitlist or revenue. It says it is a $25K check that will not fill a round, and positions its value as the 180 days after the check.
Check Size
The site states $25K checks. An older LP page says $25K to $50K, and the original announcement says $25K+. The firm will not lead or fill rounds on this check size.
Lead Tendency
A26 does not lead rounds in the usual sense. It writes a small first check and offers network support, so it is a follower or small participant. Lead tendency is left as follows rather than leads.
Recent Activity
In a LinkedIn post about its final close, Sydney Singh said A26 raised about $524,000 from 108 first-time check writers: $244,500 from 88 members at first close, $196,500 from 13 more mid-year, and $83,000 from 7 more at final close. The fund had invested in 7 startups (about $175K) and planned 8 more over the next year. The website says it makes 2 investments every 10 weeks and reviews 75+ startups a quarter. Two investments are named publicly on its LinkedIn page: ThermoShade (pre-seed, passive phase-change cooling panels for dairy farms, transit shelters and schools, founder Emily Dinino) and LedgerFi (AI-enabled finance platform for small businesses, founders Christopher Selim and Nathan Hodgens). The other five are not named in anything I could find.
Portfolio Highlights
There is no portfolio page on the website. Disclosed companies are LedgerFi and ThermoShade. A26 states it is a debut fund, so there are no exits.

Decision Process
Eight to ten weeks end to end. A member becomes the deal champion after an intro call, runs diligence with a deal team of members who know the space, and the founder pitches the full membership on Wednesday at 8pm PT. The champion writes an investment memo and every member who put in capital votes. A majority carries, then a SAFE is sent and the wire follows signature. It is structured as an investment club, with members receiving K-1s.
Founder Preferences
Founders solving problems they know first-hand, with customer trust and some traction. Most founders are connected to UCLA as students, alumni, faculty, researchers, accelerator participants or key hires, with a broad definition of UCLA-affiliated.
Geographic Focus
Los Angeles and the UCLA ecosystem.
Gaps
Sector focus is not stated and appears generalist. Five of seven investments are unnamed, and no dated announcements could be verified, so event dates are omitted.
