AJI Capital Research
Investment Thesis
AJI Capital describes itself as an entrepreneur-led early-stage venture firm that brings seed capital to startups. Its website says the team uses hands-on experience inside startup environments to give founders value and insight beyond the check. The homepage tagline is "An investment platform for materializing big ideas," and the portfolio page says "We invest in people, not companies": great people make great companies, and AJI backs strong entrepreneurs with big ideas across machine learning, biomedical and consumer technology.
The firm lists six industries of interest: Financial Services, Media & Technology, Healthcare, Renewable Energy, Industrial & Business Services, and Real Estate. The portfolio is more concentrated than that list suggests. It leans heavily toward AI and frontier technology (AI labs, AI infrastructure and chips, applications), with a second cluster in biotech and medical devices, and smaller clusters in defense and robotics, energy, and consumer.
Stage Focus
Third-party profiles (ConnectSafely, PitchBook) place AJI at seed and early stage. The portfolio shows a broader pattern: seed-stage positions in small startups alongside positions in late-stage private companies (for example Anthropic, OpenAI, Anduril, Shield AI, Scale, Perplexity, Cerebras, Groq, Glean, Lambda and Replit). The firm's own site does not say how these later-stage positions were acquired, so treat the stage focus as seed-led with opportunistic later-stage exposure. PitchBook labels at least Shield AI as a "Later Stage VC" deal and Kibu as a "Seed Round."
Check Size
No check size is published on the website or in the accessible profiles. Public data does not support a range, so none is recorded. The one disclosed figure is a $5.8M round in BioSymetrics (August 2021) on which a third-party database lists AJI as lead.
Lead Tendency
Both. AJI led SecondSight's $11.68M Series A (reported by Venture5, October 2026) and is listed as lead on BioSymetrics' $5.8M round (August 2021). It also co-invests widely: PitchBook lists 607 co-investors, including Gaingels, Opulentia, Riverside Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz.
Recent Activity
PitchBook's preview lists these recent deals:
- Synaptic Bionics (therapeutic devices, seed round), August 2026
- Gaudi AI (business and productivity software), July 2026
- OpenStar Technologies (energy), June 2026
- Cypien AI (business and productivity software), June 2026
- SecondSight ($11.68M Series A led by AJI, AI cyber risk), reported October 2026
- Replit (software development), March 2026
The AJI site portfolio page added Cypien.ai, GaudiAI and Openstar Technologies in September 2026, and Hiive, Infillion, LocatIQ, Replit and VeridianML in March 2026. PitchBook counts 95 investments, 79 portfolio companies and 17 exits for the firm. Reported exits include EpiVax (buyout, April 2026), Coyote Cannabis, PainQx, SummaForte, Ticketbash and VisualStory (out of business). The firm is described as actively seeking new investments.
Portfolio Highlights
The site lists about 85 companies. Notable names include Anthropic, OpenAI, Anduril, Shield AI, Hermeus, Epirus, Agility Robotics, Figure, Scale, Perplexity, Glean, Replit, Cerebras, Groq, Lightmatter, Lambda, Function Health, Homebound, Hiive, Udio and Pika. It also lists investment vehicles and syndicates (Accelerate New York Seed Fund, Gaingels), which are not counted as portfolio companies here. The homepage reports 17 investments and "100% success" as marketing figures, which conflict with the much larger PitchBook counts.
Team
The firm's website does not name any partners or employees. It reports 2 partners and 6 employees, and PitchBook counts 2 professionals. The findfunding.vc database (citing LinkedIn and Premier Alts) lists two people, which is a single third-party source and not confirmed on the firm's own site:
- Anthony Iacovone, Co-Founder, Board Member & CEO
- Thomas Redmond, Managing Partner
LinkedIn also shows an employee named Amanda Young with no title, who is not recorded. The firm can be reached at [email protected], and its LinkedIn page is linkedin.com/company/aji-capital.
Decision Process
Not disclosed. With two partners reported, decisions are probably made by a very small group, but this is an inference and is recorded as unknown.
Founder Preferences
The firm's stated preference is for strong, ambitious entrepreneurs. The philosophy section quotes lines about not listening to people who belittle your ambitions and about entrepreneurship as living a few years of your life like most people won't. No more specific criteria are published.
Geographic Focus
The firm is headquartered at 315 Main Street, Huntington, NY 11743. Third-party profiles list the United States as its region. The portfolio is national and includes West Coast AI companies and New York seed companies, plus the New York seed fund Accelerate NY.
Gaps
No named team, no check size, no fund size or AUM, no stated lead tendency, and no stage per portfolio company. Founded 2017 per PitchBook.
