Anamcara Capital Research
Investment Thesis
Anamcara Capital is a London-based, solo-GP pre-seed and seed fund founded in 2021 by Annelie Ajami. The firm backs exceptional European founders building B2B technology for global markets from day one, with a particular emphasis on companies serving small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). Rather than competing on check size or board control, Anamcara's thesis is built around relationship-driven, hands-on capital: the firm connects founders directly to Fortune 500 customers, US operators, and tier-1 investors through a proprietary network built over a decade across the US, Europe, and the GCC. Ajami has stated the fund exists to give founders access that capital alone cannot buy - warm introductions that translate into real revenue, critical hires, and US market entry.
Sector Focus
Anamcara invests across B2B software verticals including cloud-based enterprise software, fintech and payments infrastructure, supply chain and procurement technology, workplace/HR tools, healthcare software, and marketplaces. Portfolio evidence shows a strong lean toward AI-native tooling (agentic payments, AI avatars, AI-powered procurement) layered on top of traditional SaaS categories, plus one web3/blockchain-adjacent cap table company.
Stage Focus
The fund is exclusively pre-seed and seed. Anamcara aims to build a portfolio of 25-30 companies from its debut fund, entering early and reserving capacity for volume over concentration.
Check Size
Ajami has publicly described writing "angel-sized" checks of approximately $200,000 per company. Anamcara does not lead rounds and does not take board seats - it participates alongside other institutional and angel investors, positioning itself as a value-add syndicate partner rather than a lead investor.
Lead Tendency
Follows. Every identified investment (Paygentic, Prolo, and others) shows Anamcara as a participant in syndicates led by other funds (e.g., MiddleGame Ventures, Triple Point Ventures), consistent with the firm's stated policy of never leading and never taking board seats.
Recent Activity
Anamcara closed its debut fund - $10.6M (reported at announcement as approximately €9.7M) - in March 2023 to back pre-seed and seed B2B software companies across Europe. The fund has continued to deploy through 2025 and into 2026:
- October 2025: Participated in Paygentic's $2M pre-seed round (AI-native payments/billing infrastructure), alongside lead investor MiddleGame Ventures.
- July 2026: Participated in Prolo's £4.2M (~€4.9M) seed round (AI-powered procurement for SME construction firms), alongside lead investor Triple Point Ventures and a syndicate including Concrete VC, Foundation Ventures, Haatch, and the a16z Scout Fund.
This activity indicates the fund is actively deploying, likely still out of its original 2023 vintage fund given the small $200K check size and 25-30 company target portfolio.
Portfolio Highlights
Anamcara's public portfolio spans roughly 17 companies, including Bits.bi, Pivot App, FlexSpace, Anam, Noloco, Nory, HireVera, Ameba, SendTrumpet, Runviably, Anterior, R3VL, EquipMe, SalesForm, Praxipal, Paygentic, and Prolo. One notable exit: Zavvy (people development/HR platform), which was acquired. Anterior (healthcare prior-authorization AI) and Paygentic (agentic payments infra) represent the portfolio's strongest AI-native theses.
Team
- Annelie Ajami - Founder & General Partner. Career spans Nomura's investment banking division, Bedrock Investment Management (asset manager, $9B+ AUM), and B&Y Venture Partners (early-stage VC across Europe and the Middle East), where she also founded Gaia Venture Consulting.
- Aakriti Singh - Chief Financial Officer.
- Namrata Ganatra - Venture Partner; CPTO at Pipe.
- Philip Reynolds - Venture Partner; former VP of Engineering at Workday.
- Gary Turner - Venture Partner; Co-Founder of Xero UK.
- Rav Dhaliwal - Advisor; former Head of Customer Success, Slack EMEA.
The venture partner bench is deliberately operator-heavy (product, engineering, and go-to-market leaders from Pipe, Workday, and Xero), reinforcing the firm's positioning as a network-and-operating-help investor rather than a pure capital provider.
Decision Process
Solo GP. Annelie Ajami is the sole decision-maker and general partner; venture partners and advisors contribute diligence and founder support but do not appear to hold formal investment committee authority.
Founder Preferences
Anamcara favors technical and commercially sharp European founders building B2B software with global (particularly US) ambitions from inception, especially those targeting SMB customers in cloud software, fintech, supply chain, and healthcare.
Geographic Focus
Primarily Europe (with a UK/London center of gravity), extending opportunistically into the GCC/MENA region - Anamcara Capital Management is itself registered in Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) alongside its London operating base. The firm's value proposition is explicitly about helping European founders expand into the US market via its cross-border network.
