Angelini Ventures Research
Investment Thesis
Angelini Ventures is the corporate venture arm of Angelini Industries, the Italian family-owned healthcare and consumer group. It manages a EUR 300 million commitment invested globally in BioTech and HealthTech. The stated aim is to use technology to improve healthcare, reshape patient journeys and address unmet needs in vulnerable populations. The firm calls itself a corporate VC that operates with the independence and speed of an independent fund, with patient capital and domain depth.
What They Look For
The firm describes itself as a patient-centric investor. Every company must explain how its solution changes outcomes for a defined patient population. From there it evaluates four dimensions:
- Science and technology: differentiated science, a genuine unmet need, first-in-class or best-in-class, and a credible path to clinical or commercial validation.
- Team: deep domain expertise, ideally pairing scientific or clinical authority with commercial and operational capability.
- Market: large or growing markets with understood regulatory pathways, favourable reimbursement and an achievable clinical evidence bar.
- Pipeline and product: for biotech, development stage, mechanism of action, clinical data and IP; for healthtech, clinical utility, regulatory status, workflow integration and commercial traction.
Sector Focus
Biotech covers novel biological approaches from drug discovery through clinical-stage assets: new treatment paradigms, targeted and personalised medicines, and preventative approaches. Healthtech covers next-generation medical devices, hybrid and digital care platforms, and evidence-based digital treatments and diagnostics. The portfolio is weighted to biotech (RNA therapeutics, radiotheranostics, gene and epigenetic editing, neuroscience) with medtech and digital care names such as MMI, Hypervision Surgical, Handspring, CoMind and Serenis.
Stage Focus
The firm states it invests in Series A and Series B rounds. Its Fellows Program page says that over two years it made more than 10 new investments and deployed over USD 80 million in new and follow-on capital. It also runs two venture studios, Extend and Argobio.
Check Size
No check size is published. Recent rounds it joined range from a EUR 17 million MMI financing (co-invested with the EIB) to a USD 90 million Epicrispr Series C, so its own ticket is likely a fraction of these rounds. Check size fields are left empty.
Lead Tendency
Public announcements describe the firm as investing in or participating in rounds, usually alongside syndicate partners. Lead status is not stated, so lead tendency is recorded as unknown. The firm says it has a top-tier syndicate network and supports portfolio companies through multiple rounds.

- September 2026: participated in the EUR 40M Aptadir seed round (RNA therapeutics for Fragile X syndrome).

Fund Structure
Angelini Ventures and the European Investment Bank each committed EUR 75 million, EUR 150 million in total, to co-invest in seven to ten European biotech, medtech and digital health startups over six years. The MMI deal brings co-investments with the EIB to EUR 48.5 million.
Team and Decision Process
Four Managing Directors lead the firm from Rome, Singapore, Geneva and Munich. The wider team includes a Boston-based partner, a medical director, principals and analysts across Europe, the US, the Middle East and Singapore.
