Asterion Ventures Research
Investment Thesis
Asterion Ventures is a Paris-based impact venture firm that describes itself as a community-VC backing the champions of a post-carbon Europe. Its stated mission is to back founders who repair the world: rebuilding the economy within planetary and social boundaries, with Europe as home port. The firm argues that a destabilized climate, loss of biodiversity and a hardening geopolitical order force entire parts of the economy to be rebuilt, and that European science, talent and industrial know-how make the region the right place to do it. Asterion says capital is not what sets it apart; the community of operators and investors it brings is.
Investment Principles
The firm publishes four principles behind each decision:
- Material realism: solutions tested against infrastructure, industrial capacity and resource constraints, not only regulatory targets.
- Strategic autonomy: ventures that strengthen European autonomy in energy, raw materials, components and critical digital infrastructure.
- Long-term productive capacity: startups that spread know-how anchored in Europe's productive fabric.
- Democratic compatibility: only ventures aligned with the rule of law and democratic governance. No weapons; cybersecurity and protective technology are in scope.
It looks for markets where the transition itself creates pull, with no green premium, and for founders with deep field mastery and stamina.
Sector Focus
Four stated areas of investment:
- Energy transition and infrastructure robustness: generation, storage, grids (Diamfab, Orus Energy, Enrise, Futurail).
- Industrial decarbonization and new materials (Spark Cleantech, EverDye, Urbyn).
- Agritech and food transition (CirculEgg, Edonia, Fungu'it, Aptimiz).
- AI as a transition enabler for industrials and institutions (Darwin, WeeFin, Living Models).
The portfolio page also tags companies in mobility, social impact, biodiversity and circular economy.
Stage Focus and Check Size
Asterion invests from pre-seed to Series A and says it is lead investor from day one. A third-party profile (not the firm's own site) puts tickets at roughly EUR 500K to EUR 2M and about 20 investments a year; treat this as lower confidence. Series A is handled through a separate Series A funds effort led by Nicolas Lombard.
Lead Tendency
The site states "As lead investor, we support each startup from day one." Its press describes leading the 2024 Edonia seed. It also joins rounds led by others, for example the Companion.energy seed led by Realyze Ventures and Pi Labs. Classified as both.
Recent Activity and Fund Status
Impact Loop reports Asterion made 11 investments in 2025 from its existing EUR 50M early-stage fund, and is raising a new EUR 100M fund. A separate EUR 8M pre-seed fund exists. In June 2026 it made its first investment outside France, joining a EUR 7.8M seed in Belgium's Companion.energy through an SPV. Other recent items on its media page: Edonia's EUR 15M Series A, Revalue's EUR 2.2M raise, and Asterion becoming principal investor in Dowgo (tokenized securities infrastructure). Fund status: actively deploying.
Portfolio Highlights
The portfolio page lists 35 companies as a headline and names 29 on the page. Notable: Edonia (seed to Series A, EUR 15M), WeeFin (seed to Series B), Spark Cleantech (pre-seed to Series A), Ever Dye (seed to Series A), Aktio (pre-seed to exit), Diamfab (deeptech), Dowgo, Nelson Mobility, Qomon, Revalue.

Decision Process and Community Model
Decisions are made by a partnership deal team. Around forty private investors take part in each deal, investing their own capital next to the fund; the wider community is more than 900 angels, including founders of Back Market, BlaBlaCar and Too Good To Go. The firm reports over 200 commercial introductions for founders last year.
Founder Preferences
Experienced domain experts with a materially realistic approach and long-haul stamina, building deeptech or digital ventures that reinvent industries. Founders are asked to send a deck through the site.
