AXIAN Investment Research
Overview
AXIAN Investment is the investment unit of AXIAN Group, a pan-African conglomerate headquartered in Antananarivo, Madagascar, founded in 2015 by brothers Hassanein and Amin Hiridjee. The group is active in telecom (now branded Yas), financial services, digibank and fintech, energy, and real estate, with about $2.75B in 2024 turnover and roughly 9,700 staff. AXIAN Investment was launched in February 2023 to consolidate two activities under one brand: fund-of-funds commitments in private equity and venture capital funds, and a Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) arm that invests directly in early-stage technology startups.
Investment Thesis
The CVC arm backs innovative, early-stage, tech-enabled companies with significant growth potential, mainly in Africa and increasingly in diaspora-founded or emerging-market companies run from Europe, the US, Israel and India. It positions itself as a strategic partner that helps startups reach scale and create a cycle of financial, digital and energy inclusion. Corporate synergy with AXIAN's telecom, mobile money, insurance and energy businesses is a stated aim, which makes it a strategic rather than purely financial investor.
Stage Focus
Mostly seed. Published rounds show seed, pre-Series A and Series A participation, with a handful of later venture rounds. Third-party tracking (Liners) counts nine disclosed rounds totaling about $37.7M of round size since 2021, with seed the most common stage. These totals are round sizes, not AXIAN's own cheque size.
Check Size
AXIAN does not publish cheque sizes. Participation in $4M to $8M rounds suggests small minority tickets. No check range is asserted in the structured payload.
Lead Tendency
Appears to follow. In the rounds that can be verified (Nucleon Security, Paytic, WideBot AI, HUB2, Satlyt) AXIAN joined rounds led by others, for example non sibi ventures at Satlyt and Newfund Capital at Nucleon. Press coverage of Satlyt lists AXIAN as a co-investor, with one outlet naming it alongside the lead.
Recent Activity
- October 2026: participated in Satlyt's $8M seed led by non sibi ventures, with TLcom, Antler, Slauson and others. Satlyt builds software for onboard data processing and AI in spacecraft, headquartered in Sunnyvale and Nairobi.
- September 2025: Nucleon Security $4M seed (Morocco, AI zero-trust endpoint security).
- April 2025: Paytic seed and pre-Series A (Morocco, payments back-office automation).
- February 2025: WideBot AI pre-Series A (Egypt/KSA, Arabic conversational AI).
- December 2024: HUB2 $8M Series A (Cote d'Ivoire, payment infrastructure).
- The CVC arm said in 2023 it had closed roughly one deal a month over the prior year and held minority stakes in 10 startups at that time. The current portfolio page lists more than 30 direct holdings.

Decision Process
Not published. As a corporate venture unit within a family-controlled group, decisions likely run through the CVC head and the group's financial services leadership, with synergy with group businesses a key factor. Treat as partnership or committee style until confirmed.
Founder Preferences
Founders building tech-enabled products for African markets, particularly in financial inclusion, commerce, health access and enterprise infrastructure, and teams where AXIAN's telecom, mobile money and distribution footprint adds something. Recent deals show openness to diaspora and non-African HQ companies serving Africa, such as Satlyt (Sunnyvale and Nairobi) and Udu Technologies (Nigeria and USA).
Geographic Focus
Africa first: Egypt, Morocco, Kenya, Nigeria, Cote d'Ivoire, Tanzania, Ghana, Cameroon, Uganda and Angola. Also Europe, the US, Israel and India for companies tied to African markets.
Gaps
Check size, ownership targets, decision timeline and warm-intro requirements are not disclosed. Several portfolio logos on the site were illegible to the caption read and were left out of the structured portfolio (Workpay, Chari, HUB2, Roadrimz).
