TLcom Capital Research
Investment Thesis
TLCOM (TLcom Capital LLP) is an Africa-focused venture firm that describes itself as finding and funding Africa's best founders, from early conviction at seed to potential at growth. Its stated philosophy is "conviction before consensus": more than a decade of studying African markets and funding resilient founders through cycles. It backs three founder archetypes: resilient founders with grit and discipline, strategic executors who can articulate and execute a defensible strategy, and value-first thinkers who understand that venture is about creating greater value. The firm positions itself as "global experience, local context" with offices in London, Lagos and Nairobi. Its LinkedIn page cites over $225M in assets under management, and press releases cite roughly $250M including the TIDE Africa Fund II.
Stage Focus
Entry stages on the portfolio page span pre-seed, seed, Series A and Series B. Fund II makes initial investments of roughly $1M to $3M at seed and Series A. A newer pre-seed vehicle, TAPSI, writes smaller first checks into early African startups. Fund I invested at seed through Series B (for example Andela and Twiga Foods).
Check Size
Fund II initial checks are about $1M to $3M, with reserves for follow-ons. TAPSI pre-seed checks are smaller. Fund I and II together have supported companies from first cheque through growth rounds.
Lead Tendency
TLCOM both leads and co-invests. In Satlyt's $8M seed (announced 2026-10-01, led by Non Sibi Ventures) it described itself as the largest African investor in the round alongside Launch Africa, Antler, Slauson and others. Its philosophy page says it co-invests, introduces and picks up when founders call. Lead tendency is therefore both.

Decision Process
Partnership-style decisions across a multi-partner team. No public detail on committee mechanics. Pitches come through an Edda deal-flow form on the website; the firm does not state a warm intro requirement.
Founder Preferences
Resilient, disciplined founders with the ambition to build for scale, who can articulate a strategy that builds defensible advantage and who think in terms of value creation. Founders are often African or building for African markets, including diaspora founders with global experience (Satlyt's CEO previously worked at Tesla, Google and SpaceX).
Geographic Focus
Primarily Sub-Saharan Africa and North Africa (Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, Ghana, South Africa, Cote d'Ivoire), with selective investments in companies led by African founders operating in the US, UK, Canada, and emerging markets elsewhere. Satlyt shows willingness to back African-founded companies headquartered in the US.
Sector Focus
Heavily fintech and payments, followed by SaaS, e-commerce and commerce infrastructure, logistics, edtech, agritech, insurtech and healthtech. Satlyt marks a move into AI infrastructure and space technology.
