BoldCap Research
Investment Thesis
BoldCap is a seed-stage fund that describes itself as "AI native" and backs "outlier AI researchers and technical founders building towards AGI." Its tagline is "We don't fund ideas, we fund uncapped obsessions." General Partner Sathya Nellore Sampat told ETEntrepreneur (May 2026) that the signal comes fast: "within 10 to 15 minutes we know whether this is incremental innovation or disruptive," and that the firm would not invest in teams that are not solving hard technical problems. The firm deliberately avoids checkbox pattern-matching and favors non-consensus bets where founder ambition is the main driver of outcome.
The firm published an AI manifesto in May 2025 ("2026 won't be like 1984") and says it went AI native when Anthropic was worth about $4 billion. Its current frontier bets are autoformalisation and verification (Pramaana Labs, and the Verification Summit it co-hosted in San Francisco in June 2026, anchored by Vinod Khosla), physical AI and AI-first infrastructure, and forward-deployed-engineer companies that bring frontier AI into mid-to-large enterprises.
Stage Focus
Pre-Seed and Seed. The site says "we're with you at Basecamp, long before the peak is obvious." BoldCap reserves capital for follow-ons in breakout companies and helps them raise from higher-signal funds.
Check Size
Up to about $2M per company (ETEntrepreneur, May 2026). No minimum is disclosed. Portfolio rounds on the site range from $1M to about $3M for rounds BoldCap led or co-led.
Lead Tendency
Mixed. BoldCap led Enkrypt AI's $2.35M seed and SuprSend's $1M seed, co-led Mili's $2M seed and ZenStatement's $1.62M seed, and led the pre-seed of Hyphenate (formerly Maximor) per its own post. It participated alongside other leads in Testsigma, Locofy, Maximor, Hawcx, Nex, Sookti, Spendflo, Togai and Pramaana Labs.
Recent Activity
The second fund, $25M, was announced in 2024 to back 15 to 20 startups over about three years, with LPs including a fund of funds, institutions, family offices and global tech founders. A new fund announcement was said to be expected later in 2026. Recent deals per Caplight and the firm's site: Pramaana Labs seed (June 2026, with Khosla Ventures leading the backing), Sookti AI seed (November 2025), Maximor seed (September 2025, led by Foundation Capital), Hawcx pre-seed (2025, led by Engineering Capital), Nex pre-seed (2025, led by Together Fund).
