BroadOak Capital Partners Research
Investment Thesis
BroadOak Capital Partners is a life sciences focused boutique financial institution founded in 2006 by Bill Snider and Lars Hanan. It operates two businesses: BroadOak Asset Management, which makes direct investments, and BroadOak Partners, which provides M&A and financing advisory services. The firm set out to bring growth capital and advisory services to life sciences companies that traditional financial institutions overlooked. Its stated mandate is life sciences infrastructure: tools, services, manufacturing, pharma tech and health tech. The firm says many next-generation technologies begin inside these companies, and that their founders need a partner who understands both the science and the business.
Stage Focus
BroadOak invests in commercial-stage companies that already sell a product or service and have paying customers. It is not a pre-revenue or seed investor in the usual sense. The firm made its first investment in 2010. It does run a smaller BioTools Venture Fund, launched in October 2022 with DeciBio, which backed Indee Labs in April 2023, and it sponsors the BioTools Innovator accelerator for life science tools and diagnostics companies.
Check Size and Structure
The website gives no check size range. The mandate is described as broad, and structure follows the needs of the business: growth equity, structured or convertible debt, or a combination. Disclosed deals include a $2M growth investment in Kromatid (April 2021), an $8M senior term loan to Interpace Biosciences (November 2021), a $10M round in PBS Biotech (August 2021), a $40M growth financing package for Harvard Bioscience (December 2025), and a $23M financing for Quartzy alongside Avenue Capital (April 2026).
Lead Tendency
BroadOak both leads and participates. It led the Genomenon financing in 2021, led the acquisition of Particle Dynamics in 2021, led Pluristyx's round in 2023, and led formation of InFuse Holdings in 2019. It has also co-invested alongside Agilent in Halo Labs and alongside Avenue Capital in Quartzy.
Recent Activity
In October 2025 the firm announced it added more than $200 million of permanent (evergreen) capital to its investment platform, supporting longer investment horizons. Recent portfolio events: Agilent completed its acquisition of Biocare Medical (June 2026), InSphero acquired PhenoVista (May 2026), and Lanterne Dx merged with Flagship Biosciences (October 2025 to October 2026 news cycle). Harvard Bioscience refinanced with BroadOak support in December 2025. Waters acquired Halo Labs in May 2025. The advisory arm advised Worldwide Clinical Trials on the sale of its Early Phase Services business to Fortrea (October 2026) and advised on the Battery Ventures take-private of Enzo Biochem (August 2025). The firm is actively deploying.
