Capital Factory Research

Investment Thesis

Capital Factory is the venture firm at the center of Texas. It describes itself as the most active early-stage investor in the state since 2010 (per PitchBook, as cited on its own site). Its pitch is to back "the most ambitious founders in Texas" working on hard problems: humanoid robots, autonomous ships, neural interfaces, rockets and lunar landers. It works two ways. The Texas Fund writes cash checks into deep and frontier technology (national security, healthcare, next-generation industrial). All Access is a membership network that connects a thousand-plus companies to introductions, customers, talent and capital. The Texas Fund pitch page says it fills rounds and opens doors at the Pentagon and the Fortune 500, and invites founders to pitch directly with no warm intro needed.

Stage Focus

The Texas Fund says it invests seed through Series C. Third-party profiles show most activity at seed and early stage, with follow-on and later-stage checks into breakout companies. The firm began in 2009 as a software accelerator taking five companies a year and has since moved to a venture-fund model.

Check Size

Capital Factory does not publish check sizes on its own site. A third-party profile (angelspartners.com) lists a minimum of $100,000, a maximum of $5,000,000 and a sweet spot of about $1.5M. Treat this as low-to-medium confidence.

Lead Tendency

The site says the firm writes the first check and fills rounds, and names itself first investor in Apptronik, Cemvita, Colossal, Multicoin and Wander. Lead versus follow is not stated per deal, so lead tendency is recorded as both/unknown.

Recent Activity

  • Texas Fund II opened in 2026, doubling down on cash investments into deep and frontier tech founders.
  • Capital Factory launched STATION Austin in 2026, a non-profit that carries the community and programming mission.
  • Firefly Aerospace IPO'd on Nasdaq (FLY) in August 2025. Voyager Technologies listed on the NYSE (VOYG) in June 2025. Intuitive Machines listed on Nasdaq (LUNR) in February 2023.
  • Founder and CEO Joshua Baer died on June 16, 2026 in a plane crash near Laredo, Texas. The firm's team page still lists him, but he is not an active contact.
  • Third-party data (Dealroom) reports roughly 5 new investments in the 12 months to September 2026.

Portfolio Highlights

The site claims a thousand-plus companies across Texas Fund and All Access. The public portfolio page currently shows only a selected six (Apptronik, Saronic, Paradromics, Colossal Biosciences, Multicoin, Wander) and says the live portfolio is coming online. The homepage adds Firefly Aerospace, Intuitive Machines, Venus Aerospace, Mantis Space, Aalo Atomics, Casimir Space, Cemvita, Element3 Resources, Phantom Neuro, Vironexis, X-Bow Systems, Allen Control Systems and Red 6. It also names ICON 3D and Aceable. Exits shown on the homepage include Flywire, Wonder Dynamics (acquired by Autodesk), Invoiced and Storable (acquired by EQT).

Team

  • Bryan Chambers: Co-Founder and President.
  • Gordon Daugherty: Co-Founder and Chairman.
  • Jamie Serio: Vice President, Ventures.
  • Nick Spiller: Managing Director, All Access Fund.
  • Morgan Odell: Director of Ventures.
  • Nina Shelat: Director of Government Ventures.
  • Luis Martinez, Ph.D.: Venture Principal.
  • Joshua Baer, founder and CEO since 2009, died June 16, 2026.

Decision Process

Not published. The firm has a ventures team under a president and chairman, so a partnership-style process is likely, but this is unconfirmed. The site invites cold pitches to [email protected].

Founder Preferences

Ambitious Texas founders on hard problems in autonomy, robotics, space, defense, neurotech and energy. The Texas Fund page says no warm intro is needed. All Access is aimed at experienced founders ready to scale.

Geographic Focus

Texas first. The firm's 2017 Texas Startup Manifesto treats Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio as one city. A recent report points to an expansion to St. Petersburg, Florida, which was not verified here.

Gaps

No disclosed fund size, no AUM and no verified per-deal lead data. The portfolio page was incomplete at read time, so the portfolio list here is a subset of the thousand-plus claimed.
