Delta Partners Research
Investment Thesis
Delta Partners is a Dublin-based, partner-led early-stage venture capital firm that has been backing Irish and UK technology founders since 1994. The firm's stated position is that it backs "Ireland's most relentless founders — from first cheque to scale," emphasising three pillars: a focus on foundations (helping founders build milestone-focused, capital-optimising cultures from day one), deep experience (150+ portfolio companies over three decades), and partner-led relationships (every founder works directly with a Delta partner throughout the company's life, not with an associate or analyst layer). The firm frames itself as a generalist early-stage investor rather than a single-sector specialist, with a portfolio spanning fintech/insurtech, enterprise SaaS, healthtech, cybersecurity, immersive media, industrial IoT, and AI-native applications.
Sector Focus
Delta's live portfolio is broad but technology-and-Ireland-centric: embedded fintech and insurtech (Kayna, NoFrixion, ClevaCards), enterprise and vertical SaaS (Davra, Hubli, LegitFit, Offr, Pulsate, Qstream, Recruitroo, Marketsizer, Disseqt), mobile security (Corrata), healthtech and medtech (FoodMarble, Miracor Medical), immersive/AR storytelling (Imvizar, VisionR), industrial IoT and energy monitoring (EpiSensor), fleet/logistics (ExoFleets), semiconductor test (SiriusXT), and a fast-growing cluster of AI-native applications (Audrey AI for audit automation, Vox Talk AI for alarm-monitoring/CCTV voice agents, Tailr).
Stage Focus
Delta invests from pre-seed through Series A. It was the original pre-seed investor in Kayna and continued through that company's subsequent seed round, and external trackers (Caplight, Tracxn) place its sweet spot at Seed to Series A.
Check Size
Third-party sources (Vestbee) put Delta's typical Ireland investment size at roughly €100K to €3M, consistent with a firm that leads small seed rounds (e.g., the €1.5M Kayna round) and reserves capital for follow-ons.
Lead Tendency
Delta frequently leads. Its own announcements use "Delta leads investment in Vox Talk AI" and "Delta Partners leads €1.5 million investment in Kayna" language, and it was the original pre-seed lead in Kayna before later investors (MiddleGame Ventures, Aperture, Leo Capital) joined.
Recent Activity
Delta is actively deploying out of its most recent fund (a c. €70M vehicle raised in April 2022, targeting roughly 30 new tech investments per Enterprise Ireland's coverage of the raise). Since March 2026 it has announced three new investments: Audrey AI (April 2026, audit-automation AI, co-invested with Sure Valley Ventures), Vox Talk AI (April 2026, AI voice operators for alarm monitoring/CCTV, co-invested with ACT and Enterprise Ireland), and a €1.5M seed round in Kayna (March 2026, alongside MiddleGame Ventures, Aperture, Leo Capital, Enterprise Ireland and Digital Irish).
Portfolio Highlights
Delta reports 140+ investments and more than €1.8B in exit returns since inception. Two portfolio companies, Imvizar and VisionR, were named to WIRED's list of Europe's 100 Hottest Startups (as covered in Delta's January 2026 news post). The firm has backed a wide range of companies including NoFrixion (embedded current accounts), WhatClinic (healthcare marketplace), Swrve (mobile marketing), Homestay (accommodation marketplace), and FoodMarble (digestive health devices).
Team
- Dermot Berkery, General Partner — Long-tenured GP who speaks publicly about Dublin's "generation of good exits" spawning second-time entrepreneurs; focuses investment conversations on founders' ability to problem-solve in real time and re-think their business under pressure.
- Amy Neale, General Partner — 20 years in technology, most recently leading a global fintech team at Mastercard and running the Start Path program for 250+ fintech startups; focused on fintech, payments and banking, and on backing under-estimated founders.
- Maurice Roche, General Partner — Over 25 years in venture capital; invests with a 10-year-plus time horizon and looks for founders who are driven, humble enough to listen, and tackling a growing market.
- Declan Kelly, CFO — Joined 2015; responsible for finance, reporting and compliance; chartered accountant (KPMG-trained, Chartered Accountants Ireland), previously Head of Finance at Gael Linn and roles at Elan Corporation.
Decision Process
Delta operates as a small partnership of three General Partners (Berkery, Neale, Roche) plus a CFO, with each founder working directly with one partner "from first conversation" through exit — consistent with a partnership decision model rather than a large investment committee.
Founder Preferences
Delta's partners describe wanting founders who can problem-solve in real time, are open to re-thinking their business, and are willing to take on (or knowingly discard) outside input; Maurice Roche looks for teams he can back for 10+ years who are "driven... humble... and smart enough to solve the endless problems all start-ups have to endure."
Geographic Focus
Primarily Ireland (Dublin-headquartered), with selective UK investment activity noted by third-party trackers (Vestbee). LPs include Enterprise Ireland.
