Investment Thesis
Deora (operating publicly as "DV," fund entity Deora Ventures I) is a solo-GP AI infrastructure fund founded by Sharran Deora and launched publicly in September 2025. The firm's stated mission is to back "foundational systems that make enterprise AI real," with an explicit preference for infrastructure over model-layer or application-layer AI companies. Sharran has framed the thesis around the operational pain points that show up once enterprises try to run AI in production: latency, system reliability, interoperability, trust, and scalability. The firm avoids chasing model hype and instead looks for the unglamorous plumbing — compute orchestration, storage, data pipelines, and security tooling — that enterprise AI applications depend on.
Sector Focus
Deora's investable universe is AI infrastructure specifically, spanning compute and memory, storage, orchestration, security, data tooling and reliability, developer tools, and observability/monitoring. The firm is explicit that it is not looking for consumer AI apps or foundation-model plays; it wants the infrastructure layer underneath enterprise AI systems.
Stage Focus
The fund invests at select pre-seed through Series A, with seed as the emphasized stage. Deora is comfortable being the first institutional check for exceptional technical founders.
Check Size
Initial checks run $100,000 to $500,000. Sharran's broader personal investing range (spanning his time at Mighty Capital and as an active angel) has extended up to $5M with a roughly $1.5M sweet spot, but the Deora fund itself is disciplined to the smaller $100K-$500K band for initial checks, with room to follow on.
Lead Tendency
Deora is flexible on deal role — willing to lead, co-lead, or simply follow strong syndicates — and is agnostic to instrument type (priced rounds, convertible notes, SAFEs). The firm has described itself as return-focused rather than rigid about ownership percentage, and prefers to be invited onto the cap table by strong founders rather than forcing allocation.
Recent Activity
Deora Ventures I launched publicly in September 2025 per Fund Momentum's fund-announcement coverage, and the fund was reported to be actively deploying capital as of that launch, though total fund size has not been publicly disclosed. No portfolio investments made under the Deora Ventures brand itself have been publicly confirmed yet, consistent with a firm in its earliest deployment months.
Portfolio Highlights
Deora Ventures itself is too new to have a disclosed public portfolio. However, Founding Partner Sharran Deora brings a substantial personal angel/operator track record predating the fund: roughly 20 portfolio companies and 7 exits (including one IPO) over 15 years in enterprise software as banker, operator, entrepreneur, and investor. Publicly documented positions include Zep AI (YC W24, AI agent memory infrastructure), DBOS Inc. (durable execution/database infrastructure), Rookout (Series B, live debugging/observability), Sorcero (Series A, healthcare NLP), GameOn Technology (Series A), Wallaroo.AI (ML deployment infrastructure), PeopleReign (IT service automation), Dasera (data security posture management), Angle Health, and Segmed (medical imaging data infrastructure). This track record directly informed the AI-infra thesis Deora Ventures now runs on.
Team
- Sharran Deora — Founding Partner. 15 years in enterprise software as banker, operator, entrepreneur, and VC. Previously Principal at Mighty Capital (B2B technology investing) and Co-Founder/CEO of Mounza Inc. Dual bachelor's degrees in Electrical Engineering and Business from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Advisor to GoingVC Partners.
- John Gannon — Advisor. Founder of Venture5 Media and GoingVC, the venture capital industry hub. Former Director, Marketplace and Ecosystem at DigitalOcean (2016-2022); prior roles at AWS/Amazon and VMware.
- Victor Jakubiuk — Advisor. AI infrastructure founder; Head of AI at Ampere Computing and co-founder of OnSpecta (AI deployment/acceleration software, acquired by Ampere). Deep technical grounding in AI compute/inference infrastructure.
Decision Process
Deora operates as a solo-GP fund: Sharran Deora is the sole investment decision-maker, supported by two named technical/industry advisors (Gannon, Jakubiuk) rather than a formal investment committee.
Founder Preferences
The firm explicitly targets technical founders with deep domain expertise — "engineers who have lived through infrastructure pain points" — rather than generalist or non-technical founding teams. Founders should be building the nuts-and-bolts layer (storage, data pipelines, compute tooling, security) that enterprise AI applications require, not consumer-facing or model-layer products.
Geographic Focus
Deora states a preference for companies incorporated as U.S. or Delaware C-Corps. Sharran Deora is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and his prior investing activity (via Mighty Capital and as an angel) skews toward U.S., and specifically Bay Area, technical founders, though the fund does not state a hard geographic restriction beyond corporate structure.
