e& capital Research
Investment Thesis
e& capital is the corporate venture arm of e& (formerly Etisalat Group), the Abu Dhabi-listed global technology and investment group. The firm describes itself as the investment pillar of e& that backs the ideas and people building a better digital future. Its stated goal is to be the bridge that carries technologies between the MENA region and the rest of the world: it backs MENA tech companies so they can scale internationally, and it supports international innovators who want to enter the MENA market.
Because it is a strategic investor, its target industries are chosen for alignment with the e& group verticals. The aim is either to create synergy with the existing ecosystem or to introduce disruption to it. The firm works with colleagues across the group to find commercial synergies for both the startup and e&'s own businesses, and it points to the e& network of about 20 operators and 198 million subscribers as a distribution asset for portfolio companies.
Focus Areas
The website lists ten target themes:
- Next-generation connectivity and IoT
- Data and data monetisation
- Entertainment-tech
- Fintech and embedded finance
- Ed-tech
- SME SaaS
- Enterprise SaaS
- Ad-tech
- Novel digital consumer journeys
- Embedded AI/ML applications
- Cybersecurity
Stage Focus
Series A and Series B. The firm states it invests an average of USD 5 to 30 million in Series A-B companies during their growth phases. Third-party data (Caplight) shows it mostly appears as a co-investor in later-stage and extension rounds rather than as sole lead.
Check Size
USD 5 to 30 million on average, per the firm's own strategic mandate. Caplight describes a USD 250 million venture fund; the firm's own site cites total assets under management, capital deployed and commitments of about USD 500 million.
Lead Tendency
Not stated by the firm. Caplight lists it as a co-investor on every tracked round (Revibe Technology, Clockwork Systems, Traydstream, Nawy), so it is treated here as unknown leaning toward follower or co-investor.
Recent Activity
- Revibe Technology Series B (Nov 2025, per Caplight)
- Clockwork Systems Series A extension (Sep 2025, per Caplight)
- Traydstream Series B extension (dated Aug 2025 by Caplight and Aug 2026 by PitchBook; the sources conflict)
- Nawy Series A (May 2025, per Caplight)
- A Reuters report dated 16 July 2026 says e& scaled back its global strategy under a new chief and is refocusing on core telecoms. It notes e& capital had deployed and committed about USD 194 million across 20 portfolio companies by the end of 2025. This is a meaningful signal that new check writing could slow. Fund status is therefore marked unknown.

Decision Process
Not disclosed. As a corporate venture arm it has a board of directors chaired by H.E. Jassem Mohamed Obaid Bu Ataba Alzaabi (Chairman of e& PJSC), with Michel Combes, Kaj-Erik Relander and Murtaza Hussain (CIO of ADQ). Decisions most likely run through an investment committee with strategic input from e& business units.
Founder Preferences
Not stated. The mandate favours MENA founders scaling globally and international founders entering MENA, with products that link to telecom, connectivity, fintech or enterprise distribution. Strategic fit with e& matters more than for a pure financial investor.
Geographic Focus
MENA first, with global reach in both directions. The portfolio includes companies from the UAE, Egypt, the US, Korea and France.
