Entrada Ventures Research
Investment Thesis
Entrada Ventures is a Santa Barbara, California-based venture capital firm founded in 2018 by a team of operators and investors who describe themselves as "proven founders and investors driving early-stage, visionary enterprise and industrial tech teams to success." The firm organizes its thesis around three pillars: Sustainability, Productivity, and Quality of Life, and it explicitly targets teams working on what it calls "the world's toughest challenges" in enterprise and industrial technology. Entrada's team has a two-decade track record backing disruptive hard-tech and enterprise teams, with several partners drawn from deep technical or operating backgrounds (photonics, silicon, and prior startup exits) rather than purely financial ones.
Stage Focus
Entrada invests from pre-seed through Series A, and describes itself as helping companies "develop a company's initial profile" at pre-seed before collaborating on follow-on capital strategy as the company scales. The firm's public materials do not publish an explicit numeric check-size range, so numeric check size fields are omitted rather than guessed.
Lead Tendency
Entrada has both led and co-led recent rounds: it led Subtle Computing's $6M seed (Nov 2025) and Prophetic's seed round (April 2025), and co-led Lucidean's $18M seed (Dec 2025) alongside Koch Disruptive Technologies. This points to an active lead investor for firms it originates, with willingness to co-lead alongside strategic/corporate VCs on harder deep-tech rounds.
Recent Activity
Entrada has been actively deploying through 2025 and into 2026: it led Subtle Computing's $6M stealth-launch seed round (Nov 2025, alongside Amplify Partners, Abstract Ventures, and notable angels including Twitter's Biz Stone and Pinterest's Evan Sharp); led Prophetic's seed round for real-estate development software (April 2025); and co-led Lucidean's $18M seed for next-gen coherent optical interconnects for AI data centers (Dec 2025), alongside Koch Disruptive Technologies. Two of its existing hard-tech portfolio companies had major milestones in August 2026: Coreshell Technologies secured a $50M DOE award to build the first US silicon-anode battery gigafactory, and Quintessent (AI optical interconnects/quantum-dot laser chips) closed a $40M Series A led by Cycle Capital with Entrada continuing as an existing investor. Entrada was also named to the inaugural 2026 Strebulaev-Jackson Venture Ranking of the Top 100 Emerging VC firms (#81), a data-driven ranking built from over 230,000 venture investments.
Portfolio Highlights
Entrada's active portfolio spans roughly 33 companies across enterprise/industrial hard tech, security, semiconductors, healthcare, and vertical SaaS, including d-Matrix (AI chip design), Quintessent (AI optical interconnect lasers), Lucidean (coherent optical links), Coreshell (silicon-anode battery manufacturing), Anchore (security/compliance for software supply chains), MixMode (AI-driven cybersecurity), Wald (LLM security/privacy), Kapta Space (geospatial intelligence), Kipu Quantum and Quantum Rings (quantum computing), AppliedVR (VR therapeutics), Azulene Labs (physics-AI for chemistry and biotech), and OpenTug (maritime logistics software). The firm's historical portfolio (2000s-2020s) includes multiple notable exits: Procore Technologies (IPO, May 2021), CytoMx Therapeutics (IPO, Oct 2015), LungLife AI (IPO, July 2021), Software.com (IPO, 1999), and acquisitions including Aurrion by Juniper Networks (2016), Athleta by Gap (2008), TrueVision by Alcon (2018), zyBooks by Wiley (2019), and DocFox by nCino (2024).

Decision Process
Entrada operates as a multi-partner team (partnership model) rather than a solo-GP structure; investment decisions draw on a bench of six investing partners with complementary technical domains (photonics/hardware, chemistry/materials, software, and market strategy).
Founder Preferences
Entrada favors technical, domain-expert founders tackling hard engineering and enterprise/industrial problems - the portfolio skews toward founders with deep scientific or hardware backgrounds (photonics, materials science, semiconductors) as well as experienced enterprise-software operators.
Geographic Focus
Entrada is headquartered in Santa Barbara, CA and invests primarily along the Central Coast and Silicon Valley corridor, with portfolio companies also based more broadly across the US.
