EnvisionX Capital Research
Investment Thesis
EnvisionX Capital is an early growth-stage venture capital fund based in Palo Alto, California, founded in January 2023 by Holly Zheng (former CEO of BlueFocus International, a major Chinese marketing and advertising firm) together with He Shen and George Maloney as partners. David Wei, the ex-Alibaba.com CEO and founding partner of Vision Knight Capital, chairs the firm's advisory board, focused mainly on compliance. Despite the founders' China-market backgrounds, EnvisionX is structured as a standalone, US-based GP with LPs that mostly have no ties to China. The firm's thesis centers on backing technology-driven, revenue-positive companies with global ambitions, combining operational expertise (talent sourcing, sales strategy, market entry, brand storytelling) with capital-markets experience to help portfolio companies expand into the U.S. and international markets. On AI specifically, the team has articulated a "human-in-the-loop" view: generative AI should amplify, not replace, human capability, and enterprise moats matter more than raw automation.
Sector Focus
EnvisionX targets artificial intelligence, enterprise SaaS, healthcare/digital health, robotics, fintech, cybersecurity, and smart hardware/digital infrastructure, spanning both infrastructure and application layers. AI is the dominant through-line across the portfolio: contact-center AI (Cresta), medical-text AI (ScienceIO), AI-native media search (Clipto AI), AI data-center connectivity hardware (XConn Technologies), and AI infrastructure/search for agents (Cloudsway AI).
Stage Focus
The firm invests at early growth stage: seed-plus through Series A, with occasional participation up to Series B for existing portfolio companies with strong traction (e.g., Cresta's $125M Series D). EnvisionX looks for companies that already have product-market traction and initial revenue rather than pure pre-product bets.
Check Size
Equity checks typically start at $1M-$2M for pre-Series A rounds and can occasionally reach up to $10M at the Series B stage, broadly consistent with third-party guide estimates of a $1M-$5M sweet spot.
Lead Tendency
EnvisionX is generally a participant rather than a lead investor. Per managing partner Holly Zheng, the firm has had opportunities to lead some deals but has chosen not to, partly to mitigate regulatory risk given the founders' cross-border backgrounds — while still remaining an active, high-conviction investor.
Recent Activity
The firm closed its $100M debut fund in April 2023 and has made at least seven direct investments since inception. It remains actively deploying and monitoring portfolio milestones:
- November 2024: Participated in Cresta's $125M Series D (new investors included Accenture, LG Technology Ventures, Qualcomm, and Workday Ventures; re-ups from a16z, Greylock, J.P. Morgan, Sequoia, and Tiger Global).
- September 2024: Participated in Bot Auto's oversubscribed $20M pre-Series A round for Level 4 autonomous trucking.
- February 2024: Portfolio company ScienceIO was acquired by Veradigm for $140M.
- January 2026: Portfolio company XConn Technologies (CXL/PCIe switch silicon) was acquired by Marvell Technology.
- August 2026: Portfolio company Clipto AI reached a $250M valuation after hitting $15M ARR and profitability, raising a further $15M round.
Portfolio Highlights
Core EnvisionX Capital fund investments include ScienceIO (acquired by Veradigm, 2024), StreamNative (cloud-native data streaming), Subtle Medical (healthcare imaging AI), Bot Auto (Level 4 autonomous trucking), Cresta (contact-center generative AI, >$270M raised to date), Viso Trust (third-party cyber risk assessment), XConn Technologies (acquired by Marvell, 2026), BentoML (ML model serving framework), Artera AI (AI-driven healthcare), Clipto AI (AI media search, $250M valuation), and Cloudsway AI (AI agent infrastructure and search). Separately, the firm's website also lists a set of companies invested in by individual EnvisionX team members prior to or outside the fund (e.g., Bolt, AiFi, Anker, Amprius, Pop Mart, HireEZ, Tripalink, Intervenn, Smoore, Hisense Broadband) — these reflect the team's personal/prior track record rather than EnvisionX Capital fund investments and are not included in the fund's portfolio company list.

Founder Preferences
The firm favors technical, execution-focused founders building product-driven, technically differentiated companies that are already revenue-positive and have clear global (especially U.S.) expansion ambitions. Many portfolio founders have cross-border (US/China) backgrounds and postgraduate technical training.
Geographic Focus
