Interspace Ventures Research
Overview
Interspace Ventures (interspace.ventures, branded simply "Interspace") is an operator-led fintech firm in Brooklyn, NY, founded in August 2021 by Samir Desai. It describes itself as "an operator-led firm driving business impact for fintech startups" and runs four lines under one brand: Strategy (ROI-priced strategic finance advisory), Capital (angel and syndicate investing), Ventures (an in-house studio that builds AI-made software products) and Network (the Interspace Operators Network, a fintech operator and investor community). It is best understood as a solo-GP angel vehicle paired with an advisory practice, not an institutional fund. No fund size or AUM is disclosed.
Investment Thesis
The Capital page says Interspace invests "in ambitious teams, often alongside the founders and operators we advise, across fintech, software, and AI, with capital that brings an operating perspective." The center of gravity is fintech: neobanks, payments, banking infrastructure, compliance and wealth. Samir's writing (the Interchange x Interspace newsletter) returns again and again to unit economics, bank partnerships, interchange and sustainable business models, and he has a public post titled "Why I invest in founders who understand unit economics." The strongest signal for a founder is a fintech business whose economics hold up under a strategic-finance lens, ideally built by a team with operating pedigree. Outside fintech the portfolio reaches into AI and developer tools (Replit, Perplexity, Restream, Metadata), but these read as opportunistic secondary positions.
Stage Focus
Early stage. Disclosed checks are angel and SAFE positions alongside other angels, for example Waldo's 2026 SAFE ($2M at a $25M cap) and an early angel position in InstaSwitch before its $4.7M seed. Some later-stage names (Perplexity, Replit, Swan) are likely secondary or SPV positions. Pre-seed and seed is the realistic entry point.
Check Size
Not disclosed. The vehicle is a personal angel book plus a syndicate, so checks are likely small (angel-sized, roughly low five figures), with larger amounts possible through the syndicate. Treat check size as unknown.
Lead Tendency
Follows. In Waldo, Interspace and the 2 Days Early syndicate participated "among a number of angel investors and operators." In InstaSwitch the seed was led by Chicago Ventures. There is no evidence of Interspace leading or pricing rounds.
Recent Activity and Fund Status
The Capital page reports a track record: 31 investments, 13 markups, 1 acquisition, 3 busts, 1.37x gross MOIC, 1.36x net TVPI and 11.1% IRR, benchmarked at the 55th MOIC percentile against 2020-vintage funds on Carta data. Activity is current: Samir published a pre-investment memo on Waldo's 2026 SAFE in a new "Runbook" series and is actively writing on fintech (Block strategy, neobank infrastructure, agent payments). Treat the firm as actively deploying at angel scale.

Team
- Samir Desai, Founder (also Syndicate Lead of 2 Days Early, the Chime alumni investing syndicate). Previously led Global Strategic Partnerships Finance at Block (Cash App, Square, Tidal, Proto), Strategic Finance at Hudson River Trading, financial partnerships at Unit, built and led Strategic Finance at Chime, first finance hire at Sift, and started in JP Morgan's Financial Institutions Group. Duke 2013. LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/heysamir.
The site lists partners for marketing and growth, and for go-to-market and talent, but names none.
Decision Process
Solo GP. Samir writes an investment memo for himself and the 2 Days Early syndicate before each deal and says he uses products himself before writing a check (he did so for Waldo). Decisions are likely fast and personal; syndicate allocations depend on member interest.
Founder Preferences
Fintech operators, especially Chime and Block alumni (2 Days Early exists to back "mission-driven fintechs that enable financial access" built by Chime alumni). Repeat founders with regulated-fintech experience (Waldo's founders previously sold Gatsby to eToro). Founders who can explain their unit economics, bank partnerships and distribution. He often invests alongside companies he advises through Interspace Strategy.
Geographic Focus
US. The firm is based in Brooklyn, NY, and most portfolio companies are US-based (New York has a visible cluster: InstaSwitch, Waldo).
Network and Content
The Interchange x Interspace Substack and the Fintech VC Index (a curated table of fintech VC investors) give Samir reach among fintech operators. The Interspace Operators Network is building syndicate and talent-matching tools. This makes him a useful angel and connector for a fintech founder, less so as a primary capital source.
Gaps and Uncertainties
- Check size, fund size and AUM are not disclosed.
- It is unclear which positions are direct, syndicate (2 Days Early) or secondary.
- The acquired portfolio company is not named.
- Stage at entry is not given for any company; none is recorded here.
