J-Ventures Research
Investment Thesis
J-Ventures is a community-driven, Silicon Valley-based venture fund that calls itself a "Capitalist Kibbutz." Its edge is the community: roughly 470 expert members, including 100+ current and past general partners from leading VC firms, 140 serial entrepreneurs and 170 Fortune 500 executives. Members source deals (about 2,400 a year per its Q2 2022 LP letter), join due diligence (255 members participated in 2021) and help portfolio companies through J-Advisory. The firm describes itself as a collaborative network of leaders with shared values and connected capital, with deep ties to the Israeli and Jewish tech community and 30 communities overall.
Stage Focus
Early stage, mainly seed. Third-party profiles (Superscout, Gilion VC Mapping, Caplight) describe seed-round technology startups, and the firm reserves capital for follow-ons. Fund II's average new-company check was about $500K per its 2022 LP letter.
Check Size
Roughly $250K to $1M, with a stated average of about $500K for new companies. Third-party sources agree on the $250K to $1M range.
Lead Tendency
Mostly a follower or co-investor. The firm says it co-invests with leading VC funds (Lightspeed, GGV, Pitango and Team8 are named in 2022) and with serial founders, often as the smallest check with high value-add. It runs its own independent due diligence on each deal.
Recent Activity
Fund I and Fund II are listed on the site. By Q2 2022 Fund II had 27 portfolio companies with nearly half its capital deployed, and the firm slowed new investing in late 2021 and 2022 on valuation concerns. Out of 350 pipeline companies in that quarter it invested in one after eight diligence processes. It planned a $5-10M extension fund to add 40-60 members and said a Fund III raise was planned for late 2023 or 2024. PitchBook lists its latest investment as CopilotKit on 5 May 2026, so it is still investing. The site now reports 42 portfolio companies and 6 acquisitions. The site was in a maintenance screen on some pages (news) at the time of research.
Portfolio Highlights
Revenue-focused portfolio: 88% of Fund II companies generated revenue in 2022, 73% of those above $1M. Examples include BeeHero (precision pollination, Deloitte Fast 500 in 2025), Visby Medical (at-home PCR tests, $136M round), Bright Security (application security), Eclypsium (firmware security), DataRobot (machine learning), Veev (construction tech), Cents (laundromat software), Connie Health, Calmigo, Descope, Finout, Salespeak, Onebeat and SOC Prime. Acquisitions shown on the site include Conversa, Physera, Ananda, Concertio and Hoopla. The page also shows earlier investments by the management team (6rounds, Zooz, Wish, HopStop, Face.com, Yotpo, IMGN, Hexatier), which are not counted as fund holdings here.
Team
Jim Koshland (Chairman and co-founder), Oded Hermoni (Managing Partner and co-founder), General Partners David Wagonfeld, Gil Frostig, Marc Abramowitz and Laurie Shahon (a board member of 20+ public companies), Principal Investor Nilesh Trivedi, Operating Partners Dan Rubinstein (former Facebook, Google and Palantir product leader) and Guy Miasnik (sold AtHoc to BlackBerry, leads J-Advisory), and advisor Emre Onder. The Investment Committee in 2022 was Abramowitz, Frostig, Michael Rolnick, Wagonfeld, Koshland, Hermoni and Shahon.
Decision Process
Investment committee. The community screens deals (89 screened and 8 presented in Q2 2022), members join diligence, and the IC decides. Pitches go to [email protected].
Founder Preferences
Serial founders, revenue-driven companies, and companies backed by strong lead investors. Many founders are Israeli or US-Israeli, and the firm helps with US expansion, customers, partnerships, board members and follow-on introductions (over $20M of funding came from its investor introductions in a single quarter in 2022).
Geographic Focus
Silicon Valley base with heavy Israel linkage; invests in US and Israeli startups. The community also extends to Australia, Brazil, Austin, Miami and Chicago.
Sectors
Digital health and medical devices, cybersecurity, enterprise software and AI/data, agtech, and retail and commerce tech. AUM is not disclosed, so it is left null.
