Laude Ventures Research
Investment Thesis
Laude Ventures describes itself as inception capital for deeply technical founders. The firm backs researchers and engineers whose work often starts in labs or frontier AI teams, and who have the technical depth to turn a breakthrough into a company. The tagline on the team page is "Technologists investing in technologists." The firm keeps its portfolio small on purpose so each founder gets real access to the experience, judgment and talent around Laude.
Stage Focus
Inception, pre-seed and seed. The firm invests when a technical insight is ready to become a company. Fund I press coverage from December 2024 describes a pre-seed and seed vehicle. Tensormesh was described as a lead investment, so the firm leads at least some rounds.
Check Size
The site does not publish check sizes. Fund I is reported at $150M and the portfolio is small, so checks are likely seed-sized, but no range is stated. Left unset.
Lead Tendency
Both. The firm calls its Tensormesh investment a lead investment (October 2025) and backed other companies such as Arena and Arcade.dev without stating a role.

The fund appears to be actively deploying.

Founder Preferences
Deeply technical founders with research roots: PhD researchers, frontier lab alumni and engineers with original technical insight. LPs include many leading computer scientists and technical founders, which gives portfolio companies access to that network, alongside the Laude Institute and Laude Lab.
Geographic Focus
Press coverage says the fund mostly backs founders connected to UC Berkeley and other research hubs. The firm is US-based. No formal geographic restriction is stated.
Gaps
Check size, per-company stage and round dates are not published. No stage evidence is recorded for individual portfolio companies. Portfolio domains were left null unless clear.
