Layer Global Research
Investment Thesis
Layer Global is a technology investment firm founded in February 2026 by Anton Levy, the former Co-President, Managing Director, and Global Head of Technology at General Atlantic, where he spent nearly three decades backing category-defining companies including Airbnb, Alibaba, ByteDance, Facebook, Mercado Libre, Slack, Snapchat, Squarespace, and Uber. After stepping down from General Atlantic in early 2025, Levy set out to build a more hands-on, earlier-stage firm. The firm's stated thesis is that "capital alone is no longer enough" and that "AI is defining an innovation and disruption 'super cycle,'" with companies scaling faster and reaching critical inflection points earlier than in previous cycles. Layer Global positions itself as an active partner rather than a passive investor, aiming to help founders with talent recruitment, customer acquisition, and strategic guidance. The firm's name reflects its philosophy that "generational companies are built layer by layer," and it seeks to "partner deeply at every layer of a company." The firm targets the "highest-quality businesses with world-class founders building products customers love, structural advantages, multiple ways to win, recurring revenue, and large end markets."
Stage Focus
Layer Global is targeting investments at an earlier stage than Levy's prior growth-equity work at General Atlantic, with public reporting describing a focus on Series A and Series B rounds. In practice, however, the firm's first two disclosed investments (Kalshi and Cognition) were large, late-stage growth rounds, suggesting the firm is willing to participate opportunistically in mega-rounds for category-leading "hypergrowth" companies even while building out an earlier-stage pipeline.
Check Size
Check size has not been publicly disclosed. The firm's debut fund is targeting more than $1.1 billion, with Levy reportedly planning to back only eight to ten companies per fund, targeting businesses growing 50% to 300% per year. This fund construction implies large per-company commitments (likely tens of millions to over $100M when including reserves), but no confirmed check-size range is available.
Lead Tendency
Based on the two disclosed investments to date, Layer Global has participated as one of several investors rather than as the lead: it joined Baillie Gifford as a new investor in Kalshi's $200M round, and it participated (without a stated lead role) alongside Lux Capital and General Catalyst (co-leads), 8VC, Ribbit Capital, and Atreides in Cognition's $1B+ round. As a brand-new firm, this pattern may evolve as the fund deploys more capital.
Recent Activity
Layer Global launched publicly in February 2026 with plans to raise over $1.1 billion for its debut fund. Since then, it has disclosed two investments: a $200M add to Kalshi's Series F financing (announced May 20, 2026, alongside Baillie Gifford) and participation in Cognition's $1B+ round at a $26 billion post-money valuation (announced May 27, 2026). The fund appears to be actively deploying capital as it continues fundraising.

Founder Preferences
The firm says it seeks "world-class founders building products customers love, structural advantages, multiple ways to win, recurring revenue, and large end markets." Levy has described wanting to be a hands-on, active partner who helps with talent recruitment, customer acquisition, and strategic decision-making, rather than a passive capital provider.
Geographic Focus
Layer Global has offices in New York (headquarters), San Francisco, and Hong Kong, indicating a primary focus on the United States with meaningful coverage of Asia (particularly Greater China, reflected in Roger Gao's "Head of China" title).
