Mérieux Equity Partners Research
Investment Thesis
Mérieux Equity Partners is one of the most recognized and active European investment firms specialized exclusively in Healthcare. Founded in 2009 and powered by Institut Mérieux (the French industrial group behind bioMérieux), the firm invests in companies with ambitious growth projects and products or services transformative for health. It positions itself as an "invested investor," partnering closely with management teams and combining capital with sector expertise, an international network, and tailor-made operational support. The firm is AMF-registered and manages third-party capital across two complementary platforms: Innovation (venture capital) and Buyout.
Stage Focus
Mérieux Equity Partners covers nearly the entire healthcare company lifecycle through its two teams:
- Innovation team: Seed through Series B, backing disruptive medical technology and biopharma companies from business launch onward.
- Buyout team: profitable, fast-growing, later-stage European companies, via buyout or growth financing.
Check Size
- Innovation: €3M to €15M per company.
- Buyout: €20M to €80M per company (more with co-investment).
Lead Tendency
The Innovation team explicitly leads or co-leads venture rounds. The Buyout team takes majority or minority stakes and is not disclosed as a strict lead-only investor, operating flexibly with or without leverage at entry. Overall, the firm behaves as an active, hands-on lead/co-lead investor across both platforms.
Recent Activity
The firm is actively deploying across multiple vehicles:
- Mérieux Participations 5 (buyout, currently raising) announced its first closing in July 2026.
- Mérieux Innovation 2 (€150M target, currently raising) announced its first closing and first investment (deepull) in April 2025, and made a follow-on investment in Ona Therapeutics (Series B) in June 2026.
