Mätch VC Research
Investment Thesis
Mätch VC is an early-stage venture firm based in Stuttgart, Germany, founded in 2023 by a coalition of roughly 91 family businesses and entrepreneurs (the number was 70 in earlier materials). It backs highly technical teams tackling complex challenges in B2B markets. Its core focus is deep tech, academic spinouts, and complex hardware or software engineering where the science is the moat. It sometimes backs classic SaaS companies. The firm says it strictly does not invest in biotech, pharma, B2C, or food.
Stage Focus
Pre-Seed and Seed, often before a company is even incorporated. It prefers to move fast through convertible loan agreements (CLAs), but is equally ready to lead, co-lead, or follow on priced equity rounds. It also co-invests through the Start-up BW Pre-Seed program. Some third-party profiles say it is open to discussions up to Series A.
Check Size
Initial tickets run from about 200k to 1M EUR, with room for more in exceptional cases. Third-party directories list a first-ticket range of 100k to 1M EUR.
Lead Tendency
Both. The firm says it will lead, co-lead, or follow, and its recent rounds include ones it led with LEA Partners, plus follow-on participation alongside SET Ventures, Hager, and LBBW Venture Capital.
Recent Activity
Fund I is 48 to 49M EUR (the firm's site says 49M EUR; some directories say 40M or 48M). Decision Process
Not publicly disclosed. The management team is small and works with a large LP network of family-business leaders (for example Trumpf, Mapal Dr. Kress, Festool, Bauder Dachsysteme, Wenglor, Ritter Sport, VEGA) who act as mentors and customers for portfolio companies. Founder access to this network is the firm's pitch.
Founder Preferences
Highly technical founding teams, academic spinouts, and teams that can benefit from relationships with German industrial family businesses, with early industry validation.
Geographic Focus
Europe-wide, with a strong concentration in Baden-Wuerttemberg and Germany (Stuttgart, Freiburg, Heidelberg, Mannheim, Tuebingen, Munich), plus Zurich and Copenhagen.
Gaps
No dated press releases beyond the homepage ticker could be verified, so no activity events are included. Team page detail is thin: only one partner could be confirmed with a title.
