Render Capital Research
Investment Thesis
Render Capital is a Louisville-based pre-seed and seed venture firm that backs "Middle America" founders across what it calls the heartland and commerce corridor: Louisville, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Nashville, Memphis, Birmingham, Atlanta and Dallas. The firm argues that thirty years of venture capital have concentrated in San Francisco, New York and Boston while the regions that drive the largest industries in the US economy have had little institutional backing. Its stated pattern is software, services and brands that compound through operational excellence rather than viral growth, in companies disrupting legacy industries.
Sector Focus
Render invests in six sectors, which it says represent roughly 59% of US GDP:
- B2B SaaS (workflow software for industries that still run on email and spreadsheets)
- Supply chain and logistics
- Advanced manufacturing
- CPG
- Food and beverage
- Healthcare and healthtech (provider tools and operational software, not pharma or bio)
Exclusions: bio, life sciences, pharma, guns, lottery, ammo, alcohol, and anything highly regulatory-burdensome or capital-intensive. Note the portfolio still lists Alt Distilling, so the alcohol exclusion may be recent or apply to new deals only.
Stage Focus
Pre-seed and seed only. The thesis page says Render writes the first institutional check and stays close. Ryan Brown's bio says he covers pre-seed through Series A, so there may be occasional later-stage exposure through him. Target market: large enough to support a $100M+ outcome, with founders who have deep operating experience in the industry they are attacking.
Check Size
$750K to $1.25M per company, per the website, often the first institutional capital.
Lead Tendency
Render describes itself as writing the first institutional check and taking board seats, but it also co-invests with a syndicate (Lightship Capital, Stadia Ventures, Resolute Ventures, Connetic Ventures, Wefunder, GEV, Techstars, Future Labs Capital, HBS Alumni Angels of Greater NY) and says it pre-wires follow-on rounds. Lead versus follow is not stated per deal, so the tendency is recorded as both.
Recent Activity
The site lists 21 Fund I portfolio companies. PitchBook shows the most recent recorded deal as Dappier on 2025-07-23 and 18 investments in total; Tracxn showed no 2026 investments as of the search. Ryan Brown joined as Venture Partner in April 2025. The journal had new posts on 2026-05-13, 2026-05-27 ("The Corridor") and 2026-06-08 (a Forecastr feature), alongside a site relaunch. Fund status is unclear: Fund I is the only fund named, and a 2020 Access Ventures post described Render as a new $15M regional fund. No AUM figure is published, so none is recorded.

Decision Process
Small partnership of three operator-investors. The site says every deck is read and answered within a week, and that Render takes board seats. A warm intro is not required: decks go through an Airtable submission form.
Founder Preferences
Operators with deep experience in the legacy industry they are attacking, based in the corridor, building companies with repeat-purchase or workflow economics and a path to a $100M+ outcome. Founder testimonials emphasize Render's help with follow-on capital, talent and customer introductions.
Geographic Focus
Heartland and commerce corridor along I-65, I-75, I-20 and I-40. Offices in Clarksville, IN (headquarters), Louisville, KY and Dallas, TX; team members also in Nashville. Firm history includes the Render Competition and First Dollar Program for local startups in Louisville and Southern Indiana.
