S20 Research
Investment Thesis
S20 (legally S20 Management Sp. z o.o., based in Poznań, Poland) is the successor to SpeedUp Venture Capital Group (SVCG), one of Poland's earliest institutional early-stage funds. The current S20 team worked together at SVCG, backed over 200 founders, and saw some of the region's first successful startup exits before spinning up S20 with a refreshed strategy. S20 targets 30x+ returns by pursuing two distinct founder archetypes: "Tech-Driven Teams" building globally-ambitious, US-trajectory technology, and "Execution-Driven Teams" building regional CEE champions with strong traction and value-investing-style fundamentals. The firm calls itself a "future-proof venture firm," citing three structural shifts it is built around: AI collapsing the cost of building a startup, markets demanding faster paths to profitability, and investors needing quicker liquidity via secondaries.
Sector Focus
S20 Fund I is organized around "People and Planet" verticals: EdTech (AI-driven personalized learning), Digital Health (explicitly avoiding MedTech / regulated medical devices), Future of Work / HR tech, and Energy transition / ClimateTech (software-first, avoiding hardware-heavy plays). Up to 20% of the fund is reserved for opportunities outside these verticals when the founding team, co-investor syndicate, and market growth are exceptional. In practice, current portfolio activity also spans Fintech/payments, B2B SaaS, cybersecurity, Pet-Tech, and Consumer AI/GEO (Generative Engine Optimization).
Stage Focus
S20 invests at pre-seed, writing initial checks and participating alongside angels and other micro-VCs, with selective seed and pre-Series A follow-ons into existing portfolio companies (e.g., Boldr's pre-Series A, Peec AI's seed).
Check Size
Per the firm's own FAQ: typically €100K–€500K per pre-seed investment, participating in rounds of €500K–€1M alongside other micro-VCs and angels. Co-investors can join directly in startups from a €25K minimum ticket, or invest in the S20 Fund itself for diversified exposure.
Lead Tendency
Mixed/follows-more-often for external rounds — S20 is regularly described as "joining" or "participating in" rounds led by other funds (Hard2Beat VC on Defguard, 20VC on Peec AI's seed, Unconventional Ventures on Boldr's pre-Series A, 4growth VC on Paymove's later round), while emphasizing that it is typically the most active investor on the cap table even when not the largest check.
Recent Activity
S20 has been actively deploying through 2025–2026: a €1.2M round in Defguard (May 2025), a seed round in Paymove (September 2025), a €7M seed in Peec AI alongside 20VC (July 2025), and continued participation in Boldr's $5M pre-Series A (August 2026). Portfolio companies have also generated non-financing news: BeeSpeaker was named #3 on Forbes Poland's Best Startups of 2025 and won a Mobile Trend Award; Petsy won the Angel Driven Startup Award; Boldr was named to Sifted's 100 fastest-growing UK & Ireland startups list; and Peec AI went on to raise a $21M Series A led by Singular in November 2025.
Portfolio Highlights
Current, publicly-listed portfolio companies include Peec AI (GEO/AI-search analytics), Paymove (offline QR/NFC payments), Defguard (open-source Zero Trust VPN), Healthnix (AI-driven precision nutrition for chronic pain), BeeSpeaker (AI conversational language learning), Boldr (smart thermostats / demand-response energy management), Pupilmed (tech-enabled veterinary care MSO), Petsy (pet-sitting marketplace), SmartSchool (AI grading assistant), and Ari Care (concentrate-based personal care products). Several stealth companies are also disclosed at a category level (B2B invoicing automation, AI music education, an AI personal-context layer, licensed voice-data infrastructure, delivery-fleet automation, and personal-productivity AI). Legacy investments carried from the SpeedUp era and referenced in founder testimonials include Survicate, Orbify, Cycle.eco, boxd.sh, and Resonanz/Convex Energy (which was successfully acquired).

Decision Process
Partnership-style decision-making among the four co-founding partners (Fejfer, Czapliński, Gola, Dudek), each of whom individually sources and owns specific portfolio relationships (attributed per-company on the firm's team page). The firm describes its decision-making speed as matching that of the region's top angel investors.
Founder Preferences
S20 says it seeks "founders who are smarter than us" but only invests in markets and products the team thoroughly understands. The firm prioritizes technical, high-agency founders who move fast in emerging categories (e.g., Peec AI's team), and operator-experienced founders with prior scaling or exit experience (e.g., Boldr's founders, SmartSchool's founders). Founder testimonials consistently emphasize S20's speed, hands-on support, willingness to make early bets, and standing by founders through difficult periods.
Geographic Focus
Central Europe and the Baltics (CEE) is the core focus, with the current portfolio also reaching into UK (Boldr), and Germany/pan-European markets (Peec AI, Paymove). The firm is registered and headquartered in Poznań, Poland.
