Shift4Good Research
Investment Thesis
Shift4Good is a Paris-based impact venture fund that describes itself as the world's largest venture fund dedicated to sustainable transportation. Transportation causes roughly 20% of global CO2 emissions, and the fund backs startups that decarbonize the movement of goods and people. It invests in software, hardware and service solutions across air, road, rail and maritime, plus the circularity of transportation. The stated goal is to build global champions that can move the needle on climate change at scale.
Sector Focus
The fund names twelve focus areas on its About page:
- Alternative fuels and energy sources
- Energy storage and charging
- Battery value chain
- Connected vehicles
- Insurance for mobility
- Logistics and last mile
- Physical AI
- Circular economy
- Alternative materials
- Sustainable aviation
- Micromobility
- Sustainable maritime
The portfolio spans maritime wind propulsion (bound4blue), electric harbor craft (Pyxis), EV charging (ChargeEuropa), battery recycling and repair (Neu Battery Materials, Nowos), carbon capture (novoMOF), supply chain visibility (Shippeo), micromobility insurance (Laka) and industrial and vehicle robotics (Inbolt, Ottopia). Physical AI is a recent emphasis, with the Inbolt lead in September 2026.
Stage Focus
Fund I invests at Series A and Series B. The portfolio also includes seed positions, for example the Cetasol seed co-led with BackingMinds in September 2025, so the stated stage is a center of gravity rather than a hard rule.
Check Size
The About page lists a ticket of EUR 4M to EUR 20M, targeting 10%+ ownership as lead investor. Fund I closed at EUR 220M in January 2025 after a first closing above EUR 100M in October 2022.
Lead Tendency
The firm positions itself as a lead (10%+ ownership). It led the Inbolt EUR 11M round in September 2026, co-led the Cetasol seed, and takes follow-on positions in winners (bound4blue Series B, Shippeo strategic round).

Decision Process
Four co-founding managing partners run the firm, and an Impact Committee (Manuela Moollan joined in April 2025) reviews impact. The firm built its own scorecard to assess each opportunity and design improvement plans per portfolio company. Investment decisions appear to be made by the partnership.
Strategic LPs
The fund leverages corporate LPs from the transportation sector to speed up validation, expansion and partnerships. Announced investors include ComfortDelGro (January 2023), Edenred (October 2024), Capricorn and LFF 2 (December 2024) and Candriam (May 2024). The fund also benefits from EU support under the InvestEU Fund and was selected by SEEDS Capital as an official deep tech co-investment partner in February 2025.
Founder Preferences
The firm backs entrepreneurs with scalable, venture-grade climate impact in transportation, and values hands-on, sector-specialist support. Portfolio founders praise its understanding of industry dynamics beyond financial growth.
Geographic Focus
Europe, Southeast Asia and India. The portfolio covers France, Spain, Switzerland, Poland, the UK, Finland, Germany, Singapore and India, and the firm has an active presence in Singapore and Indonesia. Inbolt's latest round targets US and APAC expansion.
