Simplyhealth Ventures Research
Investment Thesis
Simplyhealth Ventures is the corporate venture arm of Simplyhealth Group, a UK health cash plan and dental plan provider founded in 1872 and certified as a B Corp. The fund exists to invest in and support predictive and preventative digital health companies that focus on the UK healthcare economy. Its stated mandate follows the Group's purpose: better access to healthcare for all in the UK. It describes itself as a purpose-led, financially focused fund that invests only the Group's own balance-sheet capital, with no outside LPs and no pressure for short-term exits.
Stage Focus
The fund primarily invests at Series A, with flexibility to back outstanding companies earlier or high-potential businesses at later stages where meaningful upside remains. Strong product-market fit is required. In an April 2026 interview, investor Pratik Popat said the team typically invests around Series A in digital health companies that have shown product-market fit and are ready to scale.
Check Size
Initial tickets are GBP 1-5M, with a stated minimum of GBP 1M for initial tickets and the ability to support the best founders over the long term with follow-ons. The fund was announced in November 2022 as a GBP 60M evergreen vehicle (about USD 71M) with a multi-year deployment plan.
Lead Tendency
The portfolio shows a mix. Simplyhealth Ventures co-led Scan.com's USD 12M Series A in 2023 alongside Aviva Ventures, and took part (not as lead) in Evaro's 2026 Series A, which AlbionVC led. It looks like a co-lead or participating investor more than a sole lead.

- August 2026: portfolio company Scan.com closed USD 220M of combined equity and debt financing.

Decision Process
No formal process is published. The team is small and sits inside a corporate parent, so decisions likely run through the Head of Ventures with Group sign-off. Treat this as an inference.
Founder Preferences
Deep domain expertise, operational rigour and defensibility. Popat noted that companies with diversified customer bases, balancing public and private routes to scale, have more room to grow. Founders get the Group's brand, 150 years of healthcare experience, regulatory know-how and access to a large customer base that can speed growth where the technology fits the Group's product roadmap.
Areas of Growing Interest
Mental health and neurodiversity (autism and ADHD diagnosis backlogs), consumer-centred models, and patient use of AI to manage personal health journeys. The fund looks across digital health with a focus on predictive and preventative technology that has the UK as one of its markets.
Geographic Focus
UK-focused, with an expectation of ambitious growth in the UK and internationally. Scan.com's US expansion and Ampersand's US base show it will back companies that operate abroad.
