SteerX Research
Investment Thesis
SteerX bills itself as the leading healthcare innovation ecosystem and as India's first dedicated healthcare venture capital (angel) fund. The thesis is that startups can reduce the cost of care, improve access, improve outcomes, and improve the patient and provider experience, and that a sector-only fund run by healthcare operators can spot and curate these companies before generalist investors do. The pitch is capital plus mentorship, industry access (hospitals, doctors, corporates) and global market entry support. Its stated test for founders is a compelling need, real differentiation, market validation and potential to scale, with an emphasis on what it calls A-rated founding teams, IP and early traction.
Sector Focus
Six stated investment themes, all inside healthcare:
- Innovative care delivery and service models (telehealth, home health, remote monitoring, medical tourism, care navigation)
- Next-gen diagnostics and treatment (digital therapeutics, precision medicine, AI in radiology, surgical guidance)
- Digital health and AI (AR/VR, computer vision, IoT, blockchain-based clinical and administrative tools)
- Smart and connected medical devices (point-of-care diagnostics, wearables, biosensors, chronic disease management)
- Biotechnology and life sciences (gene editing, stem cells, new therapies, drug development)
- Healthcare fintech (health insurance technology, fraud detection, value-based care enablers, hospital cashflow)
Stage Focus
Pre-seed through Series A, with the bulk of activity at pre-seed and seed. The vehicle is a SEBI-registered Category I Venture Capital (Angel) Fund, SteerX Angel Fund I, announced in April 2025 with a target corpus of INR 100 crore and a further INR 100 crore green shoe. The firm's investor page shows a $12.5M corpus and a plan for 30+ startups. Recent rounds it has led are in the $1M range.
Check Size
No explicit check size is published. A $12.5M corpus spread over 30+ companies implies initial checks in the low hundreds of thousands of dollars up to roughly $1M, with co-investment from angel networks, family offices and VC funds used to fill larger rounds. This is an inference and is not stored as a structured field.
Lead Tendency
Both. It has led pre-seed (CureMeAbroad, $1.1M) and seed (MyRx) rounds in 2026, and participated in the Series A of Oncare, which was led by Sky Impact Capital with Huddle Ventures, Lotus Herbal Group and Tremis Capital.
Recent Activity
- October 2026: led CureMeAbroad's $1.1M pre-seed (medical travel platform; AIRA also participated)
- September 2026: led MyRx's seed round (doctor-led primary care infrastructure in India)
- February 2026: participated in Oncare's roughly $3-4M Series A (oncology care network); SteerX had also backed Oncare's earlier $1M seed
- April 2025: launched SteerX Angel Fund I
The firm is actively deploying. Its public site lists event activity (IIMA Ventures portfolio showcase 2025, an ISB I-HEAL investor masterclass, an IIT Delhi and University of Exeter MedTech event) and the founder says the firm has invested in more than a dozen startups. The website does not publish a portfolio list, so portfolio names here come from press coverage only.
Portfolio Highlights
Publicly confirmed from press: Oncare (cancer care, India), MyRx (primary care), CureMeAbroad (cross-border treatment booking). The site claims 30+ startups as the fund target, not as a count of current holdings.
