Two Ravens Research
Investment Thesis
Two Ravens invests in "extraordinary founders from non-obvious backgrounds." The firm's stated view is that there is a class of early-stage founders who have every attribute of a great founding team, brilliance, vision, the ability to build and to sell, but who are systematically overlooked by conventional VCs because they don't fit traditional founder stereotypes, lack elite-pedigree credentials, or live outside the major US venture metros (Silicon Valley, New York). Two Ravens positions itself as the fund that levels that playing field, pairing capital with hands-on zero-to-one operating expertise and a global network of advisors, customers, and follow-on investors. The firm was founded by Isaac Kato in the wake of Techstars Seattle's February 2024 shutdown, explicitly positioning itself as filling the void Techstars left in the Pacific Northwest founder ecosystem, while also investing well beyond that geography.
Stage Focus
Two Ravens is a pre-seed and early-seed specialist. It does not appear to invest at Series A or later, and its portfolio is dominated by first-institutional-check rounds.
Check Size
The firm writes checks of $250K-$500K per company, and it will lead, co-lead, or follow a round, giving it flexibility to anchor a round or fill it out alongside another lead.
Lead Tendency
Mixed/both. Public records show Two Ravens both co-leading (Coworked, alongside Open Opportunity Fund) and leading (LearnCove) as well as participating as one of several investors in syndicate-heavy rounds (Hefring Marine, Senvo, Outfox Health).
Recent Activity
Two Ravens raised a $20M Fund I, disclosed via SEC filing in December 2023 and publicly announced in March 2024. The fund has been actively deploying since: a €2.2M investment in Hefring Marine (May 2024), a €2.5M investment in Senvo (September 2024), an $813K investment in LearnCove (September 2024), a pre-seed round in Outfox Health (July 2025), and a $1.8M co-led round in Coworked (May 2026), the most recent confirmed activity found.
Portfolio Highlights
The portfolio spans a wide range of sectors rather than a single vertical thesis: healthcare navigation (MD Ally, Outfox Health), maritime deep-tech/IoT (Hefring Marine), agentic enterprise AI (Coworked), video-understanding AI (Twelve Labs, a standout name in the multimodal AI space), logistics/freight-audit infrastructure (Senvo), senior-living marketplace (Znest), regulated-industry compliance training (LearnCove), fashion/retail marketplace for African and diaspora brands (The Folklore), travel content platform (Rexby), and family-formation/adoption matching (PairTree). This breadth reflects the firm's founder-first, sector-agnostic selection filter.
Team
- Isaac Kato, Founder & General Partner: Serial entrepreneur and professional investor. Co-founded two companies (including one unicorn), led three, personally raised over $200M, and had successful exits from all three of his startups. 12+ years as a venture investor, including at General Catalyst, Summit Partners, and Techstars, where he was Managing Director of Techstars Seattle (2019-2022) and previously president of MightyAI. Harvard MBA (with distinction), MS and BA from Stanford.
- Carson Nye: Previously an investment manager at Techstars Seattle alongside Isaac Kato. Operating experience at Hiya and Lexion. Graduate of the Michael G. Foster School of Business, University of Washington.
Decision Process
Two Ravens is effectively a solo-GP fund: Isaac Kato is the sole General Partner and public face of investment decisions, with Carson Nye supporting in an investment-manager (non-GP) capacity. No formal investment committee is disclosed.
Founder Preferences
The firm explicitly seeks diverse founders, immigrant founders, and founders located outside major US venture hubs, betting that talent is evenly distributed but access to capital and networks is not. Founders do not need traditional pedigree (top-tier schools, prior VC-backed exits) to be a fit; conviction is placed on brilliance, vision, and the ability to build and sell.
Geographic Focus
The firm is headquartered in Bellevue, WA, and grew out of the Seattle startup ecosystem, but its portfolio is geographically dispersed by design: Iceland (Hefring Marine, Rexby), Germany (Senvo), and the US outside Silicon Valley/NYC (MD Ally, PairTree, Outfox Health, Coworked, The Folklore), consistent with its explicit anti-thesis against concentrating on major venture metros.
Values
Two Ravens publishes eight formal values: Integrity, Humility, Team and Mission (ahead of individual needs), Inclusivity (diversity of race, gender, creed, and thought), Accountability, Intellectual Honesty (distinguishing hunches from data), Discipline, and Relationships ("the currency of our business").
