Ufi Ventures Research
Investment Thesis
Ufi Ventures is the UK's specialist early-stage investor in vocational technology (VocTech) and the investment arm of Ufi VocTech Trust, a London-based charity that has been backing skills technology since 2019. The fund's thesis is that closing the UK's vocational skills gap requires venture-backed technology companies, not just policy or grant funding, and that solving skills problems at scale can be commercially sustainable as well as socially impactful. Ufi looks for founders building products that improve vocational learning, workforce training, and access to employment across a UK economy in transition.
Sector Focus
Ufi Ventures' Challenge Fund (launched November 2024) targets five investment areas: skills for the green economy, digital transformation and Industry 4.0, reskilling in traditional industries, inclusive skills development, and lifelong learning. In practice the portfolio spans adult learning and upskilling platforms, immersive (VR/AI-roleplay) soft-skills training, sector-specific compliance and credentialing tools (construction, safety-critical industries), and workforce marketplaces and recruitment tools for care, hospitality, and skilled trades.
Stage Focus
Ufi invests at seed / early growth stage, requiring a product already in market with early signs of adoption and a credible growth plan. It is explicitly not a pre-revenue, idea-stage investor.
Check Size
Initial checks of £250,000, with capacity for up to a further £1,000,000 in follow-on funding per company.
Lead Tendency
Ufi typically writes a meaningful but non-controlling check alongside other early-stage investors (e.g. co-investing with Haatch in Certchain, and with Cornerstone, Exceptional Ventures, Embryo Ventures, Houghton Street Ventures, and Conduit Connect in Gladys), rather than always leading or setting round terms solo.
Recent Activity
- November 2025: £750k investment in Certchain (construction workforce compliance and AI "skills passport" platform), alongside Haatch.
- October 2025: Participated in a £1.5m round for Gladys (AI-powered home care platform), alongside Cornerstone, Exceptional Ventures, Embryo Ventures, Houghton Street Ventures and Conduit Connect.
- The fund also backs Lily (teamlily.ai), an AI hiring/applicant-tracking platform for UK care providers, and TaskHer, a booking platform connecting homeowners with verified tradeswomen (TaskHer also raised from Bethnal Green Ventures and Resolution Foundation).
- Ufi and Tyton Partners jointly publish a quarterly VocTech Market Report tracking trends in vocational learning and workforce technology across the UK, Europe and North America.

Decision Process
Ufi runs a staged process: proposal review by the investment team, an introductory call if there is sector alignment, a meeting with the full investment team, and a final presentation to an investment committee composed of Board Trustees. Target response time for the initial review is five working days. Ufi invests its own capital (via the Trust) rather than third-party LP capital, and typically takes a board observer seat rather than a full board seat, weighting decisions toward measurable social impact alongside commercial viability.
Founder Preferences
Ufi prioritizes founders building technology with a clear, evidenced path to improving skills, employability or workforce outcomes in the UK, with product already live and early adoption traction. International companies are considered only if they can show a clear plan to drive social impact specifically in Britain.
Geographic Focus
Primarily UK-focused impact is required for investment, though the underlying company need not be UK-incorporated if UK impact is demonstrable. Ufi is headquartered in London (Office 605, Albert House, 256-260 Old Street, London EC1V 9DD).
