Vesper Alpha Research
Investment Thesis
Vesper Alpha is a B2B deep tech venture firm backing pre-seed and seed companies in earth sciences, space and climate technology. Its pitch is that the industries that have driven civilisation for centuries, mining, energy and environmental monitoring, are being reinvented by software, sensors and data. It looks for founders who aim to "surgically disrupt nodes within complex value chains" and who it calls "Bridgers": people who can translate between the lab and the mine, or the algorithm and the wellhead. The firm says it favours narrow and deep use cases with a meaningful, observable market problem, and that it does deep industry analysis and technical diligence before committing.
Focus Areas
- Earth: software-defined geoscience, subsurface intelligence and digital tools for mining, energy and environmental monitoring.
- Space: in-space resource utilisation, orbital infrastructure, and the terrestrial industries that must exist before humans can operate sustainably beyond Earth.
- Climate and Infrastructure: industrial decarbonisation, grid modernisation and the hard infrastructure needed for the energy transition.
Stage Focus
Pre-seed and seed. The homepage labels the firm "B2B Deep Tech VC, Pre-seed & Seed". Its only recorded deal so far is a pre-seed SAFE round.
Check Size
Not disclosed on the website. The founders' origin story describes earlier angel cheques as too small to matter, which suggests Vesper Alpha intends to write larger, more material cheques, but no range is published. The one known deal was a $1.2M round shared with several other investors, so its own cheque there was a fraction of that.
Lead Tendency
Unknown, leaning participant. The Venture Codex records one deal, WarpWare, with Vesper Alpha participating and not leading. A newsletter item describes a seed round "led by Vesper Alpha" but that mention is not clearly sourced, so it is not relied on here.
Recent Activity
- October 2026: participated in WarpWare's $1.2M pre-seed round (SAFEs, closed 19 October 2026). WarpWare is a Colorado company building an AI-enabled engineering platform for spacecraft flight software. Co-investors named were Marlboro Lane Ventures, Rockies Venture Club, Cowtown Angels and Aggie Angel Network.
- Partner LinkedIn profiles show the firm was founded in January 2026, so it is brand new. No fund size or close has been announced.
Portfolio Highlights
One disclosed investment: WarpWare. The website has no portfolio page. There are no announced exits.
Team
- Salar Javid, Founding Partner (Vancouver, Canada): mine-mechanical engineer with 20+ years across Rio Tinto and Barrick Gold, and CEO of Outliers Mining Solutions. Works on bridging earth sciences and in-space resource use through Terra2Astra and DARPA's LunA-10 program.
- Adam Pidlisecky, Founding Partner (Vancouver Island, Canada): CEO of 3Pt Science and former Chief Research Officer at Seequent, the geoscience company acquired by Bentley Systems. Stanford PhD/MSc, professor at the University of Calgary, and an associate at Creative Destruction Lab.
- Daniel Wallace, Founding Partner (Christchurch, New Zealand): 25+ years commercialising and scaling technology businesses. Chief Revenue Officer at Seequent through its $1B acquisition by Bentley Systems.
Decision Process
Three founding partners form a partnership. The site does not describe a formal process. Contact is through [email protected].
Founder Preferences
Technical founders with a genuine discovery and real defensibility who also understand their industrial customer. The firm stresses customer focus: in B2B industrial markets each side takes a bet on the other, and the customer often takes more risk. It supports founders through procurement cycles, reference customers, pilots and ROI proof, and applies what it calls a calibrated risk framework from operating experience in sectors "where failure is measured in tonnes, not downloads".
Geographic Focus
Not stated. The partners are in Canada and New Zealand, and the one known investment is a US company. The firm presumably invests globally in industrial deep tech.
Gaps
No fund size, AUM, check size range or portfolio page is published. Only one investment is known, so lead tendency and cheque size are low confidence.
