W Health Ventures Research
Investment Thesis
W Health Ventures (WHV) is India's first healthcare company creation fund — a venture studio model, not a traditional check-writing VC. Rather than sourcing pitches, WHV's fifty-person in-house team of physicians, operators, and technologists identifies structural gaps in healthcare delivery, spends 12-18 months pressure-testing the opportunity with real patients and paying customers, then recruits an exceptional founding team to build and scale the company. WHV writes the first cheque ($3-5M) and co-builds alongside the founding team until the company leads its category. The firm operates across India and the US-India corridor, with offices in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, and Boston.
Stage Focus
WHV is effectively a pre-seed/seed originator: it builds companies from "pre-idea" rather than investing in existing startups pitching a deck. Once a company is spun out with a founding team, WHV continues to participate in follow-on rounds (Series A and beyond) alongside outside capital, as seen in Nivaan Care (seed 2023, follow-ons through 2026) and Reveal HealthTech (initial strategic investment 2023, Series A 2025 led by Leo Capital).
Check Size
The first cheque into a newly created company is $3-5M, per WHV's own "How We Build" framework. Total fund size across both vehicles now approaches $150M+ (Fund I, launched 2020, undisclosed size backing ~12 companies; Fund II closed September 2026 at ₹700 crore / ~$74.1M).
Lead Tendency
WHV leads by construction: it originates the company, recruits the founder, and writes the first institutional cheque, making it the de facto lead in nearly every company it creates. In follow-on rounds led by outside investors (e.g., Sorin Investments in Nivaan Care's Series A, Leo Capital in Reveal HealthTech's Series A), WHV typically participates rather than leads.
Recent Activity
WHV closed Fund II at ₹700 crore (~$74.1M) in September 2026, oversubscribed against a ₹630 crore target, following an initial close of ₹550 crore in February 2026. Fund II targets 8-10 new healthcare companies over four years, with an increasing focus on the US-India corridor — its first two Fund II companies, Everhope Oncology (with Narayana Health) and Everbright Health (US treatment-resistant depression), are both already scaling. Portfolio company Nivaan Care raised a $7M Series A led by Sorin Investments in January 2026, and Everbright Health launched a new AI-enabled platform for identifying treatment-resistant-depression candidates in April 2026 after expanding into four new US markets in December 2025.
Portfolio Highlights
WHV's site publicly lists six built companies (of a stated 14 portfolio companies total, implying additional stealth or unannounced builds): Elevate Now (India's first doctor-led GLP-1 weight-loss program, addressing 100M+ Indians with obesity), Nivaan Care (India's leading interventional pain management chain, 270M Indians in chronic pain), Hoola Health (child-first pediatric clinics), Reveal Healthtech (AI-driven healthcare interoperability and engineering services for healthcare organizations, since raised further capital from Leo Capital), Everhope Oncology (coordinated cancer care built with Narayana Health), and Everbright Health (advanced interventional psychiatry for treatment-resistant depression in the US). Fund I (2020) is also reported to have backed BeatO (diabetes management), Mylo (parenting), and BabyMD (pediatrics), among others, though these are not currently listed on WHV's public companies page. Across its portfolio, WHV reports having reached 25M+ patients, with 100% of companies having raised downstream capital from outside investors.

Decision Process
WHV operates as a partnership led by Managing Partner Dr. Pankaj Jethwani, with a large in-house research and investments team (VPs, AVPs, and associates) doing the deep diligence and problem validation before any company is built. Given the studio model, "decisions" are less about evaluating inbound pitches and more about internal prioritization of which structural healthcare gap to attack next.
Founder Preferences
Because WHV originates the company itself, it recruits founders rather than screening inbound applicants. It looks for "exceptional founding teams" willing to step into a company WHV has already ideated, designed, and de-risked through 12-18 months of diligence — described by Jethwani as founders who won't get "a cheque and a good-luck wish" but a fully co-built partner.
Geographic Focus
Primarily India, with an expanding US-India corridor focus following Fund II — Everbright Health (US) is WHV's most prominent pure-US build to date, alongside Reveal Healthtech which serves the US healthcare market.
