Wren Capital Research
Investment Thesis
Wren Capital LLP is a London-based angel investor in science, engineering and software. The firm was founded in 2011 by Rajat Malhotra and Richard Cameron and says it has invested in over 60 companies. Its stated interest runs from software and semiconductors to genome editing, and from medical devices to satellites: sectors where technical ingenuity and hard work can produce long-term value. It looks for founders with a deep understanding of their markets who are smart, strategic and flexible. The firm describes itself as patient, because difficult problems take time to solve, and pragmatic about getting deals done.
Stage Focus
Wren invests early. Third-party trackers show mostly seed entries (Tracxn counts 16 seed, 7 Series A and 1 angel first rounds), with follow-ons in later rounds of existing holdings. The firm's own site does not state a stage.
Check Size
The website states Wren typically invests 50,000 to 200,000 GBP per funding round. These are sterling figures; the payload stores them as plain numbers.
Lead Tendency
Wren is a frequent co-investor. Public round data lists it alongside angel groups and institutions such as ACF Investors, Cambridge Angels, Old College Capital, Scottish Enterprise and Martlet Capital, and it rarely appears as the named lead. Lead tendency is recorded as follows, with low confidence.
Recent Activity
Tracxn (as of August 2026) counts 39 portfolio companies and about two new investments a year. Recent rounds include Singular Photonics (seed, August 2026), HotHouse Therapeutics (seed, December 2025), SenseAI (seed, September 2025) and Monument Therapeutics (seed, February 2025). Startupmag also links the firm to a 3M GBP round in Silvia Bio, a Sheffield cell-profiling company, in October 2026. There is no public fund announcement; the firm operates as an LLP angel vehicle, so fund status is unknown.

Decision Process
A two-partner firm. Decisions are made by the partners together, and the firm says it aims to get deals done pragmatically. No investment committee is described.
Founder Preferences
Founders with deep domain understanding in technical fields. Most holdings are university spin-outs and deep-tech teams, often from Cambridge, Oxford, Edinburgh and other UK research hubs.
Geographic Focus
UK-centred. Tracxn counts 26 UK first-round investments and one in Portugal. Companies are concentrated in Cambridge, Oxford, Scotland and other research cities.
How To Approach
The firm asks for a short summary of a proposal emailed to its summaries address, and lists a general contact email and phone number on its site. Public sources describe a firm that co-invests with other angels, so syndicate introductions are likely a strong route.
Gaps
The firm publishes no portfolio page, so the portfolio list comes from third-party trackers (Tracxn, Startupintros, Startupmag) and carries no verified domains or stages. AUM is not disclosed.
