BAG Collective Research
Overview
BAG Collective, formerly and still widely known as the Black Angel Group (BAG), is an angel investing collective founded in Q1 2021 by a group of Black Googlers and Alphabet employees. It began with roughly 35 members and says it now has more than 450 members drawn from Google, other large tech companies and startups, with members in the US, Europe, Africa, LATAM and Asia. It markets itself as investing intellectual, social and financial capital in seed to Series A startups.
Investment Thesis
The collective says it uses its members' operating experience and networks to help startups grow. Its stated aim is to back top founders from all backgrounds while creating a new generation of angel investors, with a belief in ethical, high-growth technology. Its mission, restated in its fourth-anniversary post, is to support and guide the most promising founders globally in collaboration with leading VC partners and angel investors.
Stage Focus
Seed to Series A, with occasional pre-seed participation (for example BizTrip AI's $1.5M pre-seed in early 2026). Third-party profiles list a broad range of $100K to $5M for the group, which is an aggregator figure rather than a firm statement.
Check Size
The group pools member capital, so individual checks are small relative to a fund. Aggregator data suggests $100K to $5M across the group, with most deals far smaller. Confidence is low; the firm does not publish a check size.
Lead Tendency
BAG participates in rounds led by others. In Satlyt's $8M seed it joined non sibi ventures (lead), Gaingels, Axian Investment and existing investors. In BizTrip AI's pre-seed it followed RRE Ventures. It is a follower and co-investor, not a lead.
Recent Activity
- October 2026: Participated in Satlyt's $8M seed (space-based virtual data centers), led by non sibi ventures.
- April 2026: Seed investment in Otto Sales AI (about $0.5M round per CB Insights).
- January/February 2026: Participated in BizTrip AI's $1.5M pre-seed led by RRE Ventures.
- February 2025: Reported 35+ portfolio companies and 300+ members, deploying millions per year.
Portfolio Highlights
The site lists about 37 companies, including Cohere, OpenAI, Lambda, Akash Systems, AppliedXL, Audioshake, Career Karma, Checkmate, Gynger, Home From College, LastMile AI, Aster, Pager Health, Polar Signals, Mansa, OkHi, PayOS, Threatkey and Satlyt. The mix is heavily AI and developer infrastructure, with fintech, health, space and consumer travel and media names.

Decision Process
Collective model. Members source and diligence deals, and syndicate investment through the group. Membership requires accredited-investor status. It runs information sessions for prospective members and an annual summit.
Founder Preferences
Founders from all backgrounds, with a stated emphasis on underrepresented and Black founders and on ethical, high-growth technology. Warm connections through members help, and the group routes inbound through an Airtable form on its site.
Geographic Focus
Global. Members span the US, Europe, Africa, LATAM and Asia, and recent deals include London, Nairobi and US-based startups.
