Blume Ventures Research
Investment Thesis
Blume Ventures is a Mumbai-based early-stage venture capital firm founded in 2011 by Karthik Reddy and Sanjay Nath. The firm backs technology-led Indian startups at the seed and Series A stages, with a stated belief in partnering early with "visionary" technical and product-first founders before institutional rounds are competitive. Roughly a third of the portfolio is built around Indian engineering talent creating products for global markets, while the current fund (Fund V) is weighted roughly 60-65% toward domestic-heavy sectors such as healthcare, financial services, commerce, and consumer brands. The firm operates a dedicated pre-seed vehicle, the Blume Founder's Fund, for founder-first bets before a formal seed round.
Sector Focus
Blume is a generalist early-stage investor with recurring emphasis on:
- Fintech and financial services (payments, lending infrastructure, B2B fintech)
- Consumer internet, marketplaces, and D2C/consumer brands
- SaaS and cross-border enterprise software
- Healthtech and digital health
- Edtech
- Climate and clean energy / EV
- Insurance and insurtech distribution
- Deeptech, robotics, and industrial/manufacturing platforms
- Gaming and media/entertainment (a personal focus area of co-founder Karthik Reddy)
Stage Focus
Blume invests primarily at seed and Series A, with selective pre-seed exposure through the Blume Founder's Fund and opportunistic follow-on participation into later rounds (Series B+) for existing portfolio winners (e.g., continued participation in Euler Motors through its Series E).
Check Size
Typical initial check size is reported at roughly $200K to $2.5M, scaling with round size and conviction; the firm also reserves capital for follow-ons across a five-fund family plus continuity/opportunity vehicles.
Lead Tendency
Blume frequently leads or co-leads the rounds it enters at seed and Series A (e.g., led BIDSO's ~Rs 63 Cr Series A in March 2026; co-led Mysa Innovations' $3.4M round in January 2026) while also participating as a syndicate member in later, larger rounds for existing portfolio companies.
Recent Activity
Blume announced the first close of Fund V at $175M in October 2025, targeting a final close of $250-275M in early 2026 and planning to back 30-35 new startups from the vehicle, concentrated in consumer, fintech, healthtech, and deeptech. Combined with its prior four funds and continuity vehicles, the firm now manages more than $800-900M in AUM. Recent 2026 activity includes: co-leading a $3.4M round for B2B fintech Mysa Innovations (January 2026); leading a ~$7.6M (Rs 63 Cr) Series A for toy manufacturing platform BIDSO (March 2026); continued participation in Euler Motors' $47M Series E led by Lightrock (March 2026); and backing India entertainment/media-tech startup Mythik's $5M follow-on raise via the Blume Founder's Fund (May 2026). As of mid-2026 the firm had made roughly a dozen new investments in the year, following 46 in 2025.
Portfolio Highlights
Blume's ~330+ company portfolio has produced 5-6 unicorns (Unacademy, Slice, Purplle, Spinny, among others), several IPOs, and roughly 48 acquisitions. Notable recent portfolio events include the acquisition of Unacademy by upGrad in an all-stock deal (announced March 2026, CCI-approved July 2026) and the June 2026 BSE/NSE IPO listing of insurance-distribution portfolio company Turtlemint, where Blume was among the selling institutional investors. Other notable names across the portfolio include Dunzo, Servify, GreyOrange, IntrCity, BeatO, LoveLocal, SquadStack, and Euler Motors.

Founder Preferences

The firm has repeatedly backed first-time and second-time founders pre-product-market-fit through its dedicated pre-seed Founder's Fund vehicle.
