Cibus Enterprise Fund Research
Investment Thesis
Cibus Enterprise is the venture capital strategy of Cibus Capital LLP, a London-based specialist investment advisory firm focused exclusively on the global food and agriculture value chain. Cibus Enterprise backs disruptive technology companies transforming the future of food and agriculture, partnering with ambitious teams that have demonstrated early commercial traction and clear product-market fit. The strategy targets companies positioned to deliver both outsized financial returns and meaningful sustainability impact. Founder Rob Appleby has publicly articulated the thesis that agtech should solve real problems encountered by real farmers, favoring investors who combine financial acumen with hands-on operational and agricultural expertise rather than treating agriculture as a single undifferentiated technology category.
Sector Focus
Cibus Enterprise organizes its thesis around seven investment themes: Robotics & Automation (robotics and AI, precision applications, IoT); Biologicals & Genetics (gene editing, biological inputs, nutrient efficiency); Natural Capital (soil, water, carbon and biodiversity); Health & Nutrition (nutraceuticals, personalised nutrition, novel protein); Supply Chain Technology (agri-fintech, traceability, waste management); Animal Health (monitoring & diagnostics, feed & vaccine, methane reduction); and Novel Farming Systems (controlled environment agriculture, recirculating aquaculture systems, enabling technology).
Stage Focus
Cibus Enterprise invests in companies with demonstrated early commercial traction and clear product-market fit, roughly Series A through growth stage, rather than pure pre-seed or seed. It typically participates in or leads growth-oriented rounds (e.g. Series A-2, Series B) alongside co-investors.
Check Size
Check sizes are not published exactly, but historical rounds show Cibus writing checks in roughly the low single-digit to double-digit millions range, e.g. participating in a USD 20M Series A-2 for Corvus Robotics (2026) and leading a USD 34M Series B for DMC Bio (2021).
Lead Tendency
Cibus both leads and follows: it has led rounds (e.g. DMC Bio's Series B) and participated as a syndicate member in others (e.g. Corvus Robotics' Series A-2, led by Catalyst Investors alongside S2G Investments, Spero Ventures and F7 Ventures).
Recent Activity
Cibus Enterprise Fund II is actively deploying. In September 2026 it invested in Corvus Robotics' USD 20M Series A-2 (autonomous warehouse-inventory drones) and, days later, fully exited its position in AWM (Adroit Worldwide Media) following Grainger's USD 210M acquisition of AWM's technology, IP and talent — a full realisation spanning both Cibus Enterprise Fund and Fund II. Earlier 2025 activity includes investments in 4AG Robotics (autonomous mushroom harvesting) and Growers Edge (agri-fintech).
Portfolio Highlights
The venture portfolio spans 20+ companies across food and agtech, including Corvus Robotics, 4AG Robotics, Growers Edge, EarthOptics, Bonsai Robotics, Spade (herd.vision), Ecorobotix, Vive Crop Protection, Phytolon, Borealis Foods, DMC Bio, Burro, BeeHero, Nourished, Ostara, The Kingfish Company, Saga Robotics, BlueNalu and Moleaer. Its highest-profile realized exit is AWM, sold to W.W. Grainger for USD 210M in September 2026 after Cibus first backed the company in 2021.

Founder Preferences
Cibus favors technical, operationally credible founders solving concrete problems for real farmers and food-system operators, with evidence of commercial traction rather than pure technology promise.
